Plunket Rooms by maggiemae

Plunket Rooms

This building in Oamaru was erected in 1940 - 2 years before I was born. I expect my Mum took me here to check up - Plunket Rooms. It has remained just like this for all those years and the flower gardens are kept most beautifully!
Three good things:
1. A cup of coffee and a delicious cheese roll at our local cafe!
2. It was so cold today, Thought it might be winter again! Put some much warmer clothes on!
3. Broccoli soup for lunch must be good for you!
Nice capture, impressive building

Such a lovely building demanding respect -- is it built in the omerau stone -- you have often spoke about !

@beryl Yes Beryl - just about all the old buildings are built of this creamy stone!

@summerfield Yes, I suppose Plunket is not in everyone's vocabulary! Very necessary service it was then!

It's very stately looking which is not necessarily reflected in its purpose if I'm understanding the term "plunket" correctly!

@olivetreeann Plunket was the caring system set up in 1907 to look after the welfare of all babies. Educate the mother and set up support systems.

@maggiemae Oh, so it's more like a clinic. Then a fine piece of architecture it is!

Coffee, cheese roll, broccoli soup, I got all caught up in your food for the day and almost forgot to tell you what a spectacular picture this is. It is edifying too since I did not know what a Plunkett room was. Now I know.
