Our journey started off badly as after travelling two hours down to the airport, at the ticket counter being asked for my passport, I realised I had left it behind! Horrors! Missed all the connections for the day while we had to return! I just couldn't believe my mistake! I'm always so careful. It was Christmas Day and everything was shut. However our travel agent kindly got us seats on later planes and charged us zillions for that privilege! A very costly mistake! Had to travel back and then return.
Three good things:
1. Had a night to stay in Auckland to be in time for the Singapore flight and stayed here in the hotel. The food was disappointing but the bed was so comfortable having had about 3 hours sleep the night before!
2. Wifi in the hotel
3. Extremely quiet room
yes, costly mistake indeed. happened to me once, got back home, couldn't find passport turned out it was with me all the time. And i was 10 years younger then.didn't miss any flights but taxi cost was horrendous and traffic almost made me have a heart attack! well lessons learned. still, enjoy your trip. merry Christmas to you and mr. Cool!
So sad, Maggiemae! I "lost" my passport in Israel and I sent my husband onward on our original flights so I only had to pay extra for my own. Good news is that it sounds like the Singapore portion is going to work out for you. Looking forward to your photos! Happy Holidays . . .
Oh Maggie I feel for you. I'm glad to see you still have smiles on your faces. Merry Xmas and I hope your trip turns out well, wherever you are traveling!
The worst story of the Christmas holidays! I feel for you & can just imagined the complete horror when you realised! You will never do that again!! Being a real know it all can't help wondering why your passports were in seperate places! We keep ours together in special wallet in the desk then just add tickets & insurance etc before the holiday. Sorry that sounds insensitive but perhaps something to remember! Put it out of your mind & have a great holiday! Look forward to the photos! Xx
@happypat I normally wear my passport in flat purse that has a cord around my neck. Boarding passes and important documents in there too. But your's is a good idea!
I have just caught up and realised that you are having an amazing journey. I wonder if you are coming o the UK? I feel for you as forgetting your passport, especially with all the excitement of starting this adventure must have been horrific. I only did it once when going to a wedding oin the Shetland isles off Scotland, not realising that we had to have them. I had arrived at my sisters to travel up together the next day and had to drive 5 hours home, pick it up and 5 hours back to her house. We had 1 hours sleep before heading to the airport! At least we did not have to fork out on another flight abroad! I am following the rest of your tour with interest.
