Now we are down the road - the road that has taken years to reopen after the Kaikoura Earthquake in 2011. Took a while as there were lots of one way places. Then after a feed of mussels at Kaikoura we set off for the north. Just short of our destination we were halted by a serious road crash ahead. It was 2 hours before we could get any further!
Three good things:
1. It was not us that were taken away in this helicopter coming to rescue them!
2. We are awaiting a Cyclone and have camped in a Campsite, beside a stream which could flood! if you don’t hear from me - we have been washed away!
3. Fun watching others. Let the rain begin!
My goodness- more adventures! We were halted by a 6 car pile up on our way home from KY one time. After a 2 hour wait we were finally moving and decided to go back to our son's and drive home the next day. Stay safe during the cyclone! And no washing away!
@huvesaker The people in the accident are not okay of course - one was seriously injured and flown off in this helicopter to Wellington - across the Strait!
@julzmaioro Not sure where its higher here, Julia! Just going to keep in touch with emergency services - where and how I don't know. Our radio doesn't work, neither does the TV
I have had one ambulance ride and I never want to do that again, let alone an emergency helicopter ride! My ambulance ride was $1500...can you imagine what a helicopter would be?!? They may not want to survive...Stay safe!
I'ld suggest driving this way onto the Kenepuru Road although we are on the beachfront we are a fair way in from the open sea. Plenty of space to park on our property but can't guarantee the road won't get slips on it.
@kiwinanna Thanks Liana but we have got 3 days paid for here at the camping ground and have shifted up to a concrete stand for safety now. All we have to do is try and exercise in a tiny area! And watch the rain!
Hoping by now that the cyclone has passed and that you were not washed away by the floodwaters. This is a terrific shot of the helicopter although I am sad for the reason for it
@grammyn Thanks Katy - yes, death is all around us! So sad when we know someone though! Didn't know the lady here. So much water yesterday and now the sun is shining and the doors are all open!
