At our rather nice camping spot beside the fast flowing creek that did actually rise, but not flood, we sat on the bank and watched. Looking for the famous eel but he didn’t turn up. But these two did - maybe they are great friends!
Three good things;
1. We must have been in the right place for this devastating cyclone that came through central NZ. A lot of rain but no wind.
2. Some nice people came up to our door and said ‘Hello’!
3. Found a duck on the side of the stream that had been injured by an eel, obviously biting off part of her leg. She was distressed and so were we! Organised the SPCA to come and give her a chance at life…… and they did!
An idyllic scene and beautifully captured ! Maggie - what beautiful company at your camping spot . and you also acted as good Samaritans ! This scene was an instant fav
@maggiemae I would have done the same...we have a three legged hedgehog who lives under our house. He got his leg trapped and it was hanging off...so we helped, and he stayed :-)
@maggiemae he never leaves us, we feed him and he lives under the house in a safe corner. of course he isn't out just bow, but he will pop out and say hello when the time is right
Oh dear poor duck, I never knew how bitey eels where until we saw them at the Nicau cafe, they were quite aggressive coming up to bite fingers! I love the look of this place, the perfect stop off for a night or so. The cockerel is reflected in the creek beautifully & the sheep is quite unconcerned.
What a relaxing scene! Not what I would think of for camping! I'm glad you're safe and that you didn't have to get out of there because the creek rose too high.
What an amazing photo. Fabulous clarity and color. I love the two different animals in it and the reflections. How good of you to help the duck out. FAV
So peaceful and serene- hard to believe there's danger lurking in that water! Glad you were able to help the duck- so sad for its accident but quite Providential that you came along!
Fav.
it's a FAV!
