Grape Surprise by maggiemae

Grape Surprise

On the way to our Beach camping site on the East Coast of Marlborough, as expected passed through acres and acres of vineyards. But this is the difference…..the floods from the past Cyclone have had an effect on this particular one!

Three good things:
1. These vineyards belong to ‘Wither Hills’ and their wine is to be relished!
2. The wild and pebbly beach didn’t encourage swimming but did encourage a chair in the sun to read.
3. A walk through the giant pine trees was delightful. My feet trod through blue Viper’s bugloss, the gold of Dandelions, the white upright flowers of Queen’s Lace and the red gold of the pine-needle carpet!
Such gorgeous intense colors you have captured in this one. I love the patterns to but I'm sad to see the vines flooded I hope it doesn't destroy their crop.

Your number three sounds very colorful

Super shot - Hopefully the resultant wine from the vines won't be too diluted! I agree about Wither Hills wines. Had a lovely platter there last week with my cousins.

@grammyn I wouldn't know but think the water will subside within a few days of bright sunshine. They won't need to be watered for a week!

Sure is a great capture. Hope they don't lose any of their crop. We don't get Wither Hills wines over here. We don't get many NZ wines at all really. Cant wait to get home and have a little wine tasting :)

@k1w1 In this area, there are wine tastings around every corner. We didn't indulge as we are always driving!

oh my goodness that's awful...I know it was something my Dad always hated for his vineyard...too much rain. He said you can deal with drought ..too much water is a huge problem. We've drunk their wines.

@seattlite Its really just green and blue Gloria! The sky and the leaves!
February 23rd, 2018
I guess it saves on irrigation but I hope it isn't too much and spoils the crop. What striking colours.

@casablanca The sky was so blue after the cyclone, it made such an effect in the still water - hope the roots of the grapes don't rot!

Great

Looks like somebody planted the grapes in the rice paddy. Fav. Quite surreal.
February 23rd, 2018
A nice image, but hopefully not a lasting problem with the vines getting their feet too wet.
February 23rd, 2018
The rain water makes an excellent photo but I am not sure the vines are too pleased at being watered down.

This is so lovely. I know the winery would adore a print of this scene. I do wonder though if they have soil drainage issues?
