Poutini's Lair by maggiemae

Poutini's Lair

Turning further east rather than continuing south, we set off for the mountain pass. Before the main incline we found this amazing camp whose faculties outshone all the others and whose owners had statements everywhere saying “if you are not having fun, you are not on holiday” etc etc.
Three good things:
1 This odd character was at the entrance to the camp and the notice read, “Poutini’s Bridge and Lair” However they made water stream off the side of the bucket was not obvious but the poor lady must have got awfully cold!
2. Kiwis can be seen here - if you get up in the middle of the night as well as glow worms!
3. Plenty of rest for John who might have caught my cold. Two days here.
Lovely character! I did not know Glow Worms were a real thing....lol my son had a glow worm Toy he loved!! Very cool capture!

What a great find, it sounds like a perfect spot to stay for a while. We saw glow worms and kiwis somewhere in New Zealand years ago when David's brother lived there, but I can't remember where it was now.

@onewing There are probably lots of sites where you can see both but they are not where you can camp! This is quite a hidden treasure!

Love the fun attitude of the camp’s owners this scene shows!

Love the smoothed out water and the sense of humour of the camp! I remember seeing glow worms in the caves at Te Anau, which I thought was just magical. Never saw a real kiwi though.

"The Glow-Worm - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glow-Worm
"Das Glühwürmchen", known in English as "The Glow-Worm", is a song from Paul Lincke's 1902 operetta Lysistrata, with German lyrics by ... The song, with its familiar chorus, was translated into English and became an American popular song".

I know this song from way back in Germany.

The goal of any get away is to have fun and I believe you are doing that

@digitalrn One wonders what the definition of 'fun' is, Rick! Does fun involve lots of excitement and laughter? Or is it just quiet contentment of what one is doing!

@bruni Thats a lovely song - the words, I have found, yet to find the tune - when I have more internet space, I will!

It has been a long 6 months for my husband, Dan and me. He had been feeling off for quite some time and having urinary issues, frequency and urgency too. Last fall his PSA was elevated to 12.9 which is not that high but was elevated. Long story short, he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on Jan 30. The started months of testing locally and in San Francisco. He was scheduled and rescheduled for surgery and then cancelled when we found his Cancer was outside of his prostate. Treatment is the best and truly only option. He started hormone therapy pills last night, Sunday, and then starts hormone therapy injections May 31 and depending on how things go will start radiation late July. He is strong and a fighter and way too many men get this awful disease. It was made better by a medication his oncologist prescribed a few weeks ago. Nobody gave him this option and one pill made a huge difference and he is able to now pee normally again after a few years. Our journey and our life. Healthier food and exercising too. There is a ton more but keeping this short. We are exhausted and I have a sister who's long time boyfriend is very ill at the moment as well. He is in kidney failure, on dialysis 3 x weekly and is only 56. My husband is 63. Life changes in a heartbeat and we deal with it and hopefully move on. I hope you and your John are doing ok. I have lost a lot of time here but will pop in on occasion. Always loved your three things and stories as well but could not keep up just because of my own health issues and then my husbands. Take care and be well and enjoy life as much as you can.

@darsphotos Thanks Darlene- been so good to hear from you. My husband was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2000. He chose to have radiation whereas others that we knew chose the surgery. My hubby has had continued bowel problems for all the time since which was advised but told only 5%. Your Dad needs to shrink his with the hormone pills then they will radiate. There is also the treatment called Brachytherapy. John couldn't have this because of the way his bones are. However it is well recognised as beneficial.
Hope your health problems will fade away with your optimistic and sharing personae!

@maggiemae I had no idea your husband had a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2000. I am sorry he has had problems with radiation. They say this is rare but how do we know till treatment starts? My husband, Dan, needs to do hormone therapy first, last night was day two of this medication, Casodex. I have heard of Brachytherapy. I will check more into this since things have not gone the way I think they should have. Please tell me how many tests he had to have done to finally decide what treatment was? I talked to Dan at work today and we agree that a biopsy unless certain then an MRI would have saved time and given us the entire picture right away and avoided so much time off work and unnecessary trips back and forth to San Francisco. I wish for John the very best over time. Does he get checked on a regular basis and have any treatments today? It is quite a road. I joined a couple of Facebook pages, Prostate Cancer Wives Talk and Support Group and one of the wives started this page as well: The MAN’s Gland...Recipes & Nutritional Support For Prostate Cancer Way too many are being diagnosed with this cancer. I am trying my very best to keep healthy and stay rested and so is Dan. Looks like you and John are enjoying life today and that is what we have, today. Take good care and keep me posted if you like. Have not put this on Facebook but it is tempting. Maybe one day.

@maggiemae Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I really appreciate it a lot. You are a wonderful person who I am lucky to have met here.

We had to decide on surgery or radiation at first but then when brachytherapy became available he had to fly to Auckland to have tests which proved he couldn't have it due to bone structure. Then he started radiation and went through that - very tired - I took over his work as well as mine and we had to travel to the next city to have it. He now has tests regularly and the PSA has never gone over 2. So success. Other friends had surgery and although as in radiation, the sex life went out the window, they didn't have and bowel problems. @darsphotos
