Next door.. by maggiemae

Next door..

We were parked against this fence in a car park of a Club. I looked out my window and saw this! No wonder there was a rooster that crowed half the night!
Three Good Things:
1. The club was handy for 3 meetings - friends and business.
2. It was mother's day and the Club gave me a long stemmed rose that was actually a chocolate!
3. It rained and rained and was cold - winter has arrived and so will we!
No cockerel there, perhaps somone has rung its neck...you don't need cocks for eggs! Perhaps I should phrase that better but you know what I mean! Do t like the sound of the cold! Pity you aren't still traveling in north island , would have loved to have had a quick meet up...turn round & go back!

Three months is probably enough to spend on the road, Pat! Good luck with your travel @happypat

I guess if you've got the rooster crowing all the time you get used to hearing it- but not when you don't have one and then you're visiting. Looks like these ladies are well-fed. It's been so nice having the warmer weather here- although today it's as chilly as winter.

Terrific shot especially on black of all these egg layers! Can you blame the poor rooster for crowing about his harem?! Happy Mother’s Day to you. A chocolate rose would have been nice

@grammyn Yes, he looked very superior and good thing he didn't catch my eye or I would have given him rude sign!

No wonder the rooster was crowing with all these girls around.

@onewing I imagine he thinks there are a huge number of neighbourhood roosters all wanting to take control! But in a residential spot, there are not very likely people wanting to put up with a rooster!

@maggiemae We lived in Cyprus for 3 years and lived in a Greek village for 8 months before we moved on the RAF camp and everyone in the village had a damned rooster. There was always one that started crowing at about 2 am and he set off all the others in the village.

@onewing What an interesting history you would have - hope its documented somewhere!
And in other pacific islands, like Fiji - the roosters are the major cause of sleep disruption... in other islands, dog barking..... in even more islands like Indonesia - cats - making no noise whatsoever, but everywhere!

A chocolate rose - perfection twice over! No wonder the rooster was interested in this lot!!

the rooster needs to be heard amidst all the hens' chatterings! how lucky that rooster could be - a dozen mates. there's a story right there.
