Bookclub and the Afternoon Tea Spread

Book Club today in a modern and very beautifully designed home. We are so lucky to enjoy our club members’ homes! And this afternoon tea may spread more into our waistlines!
The painting in the background was done by the lady on the back left, in the blue. We never knew she could paint like this. Another of our members is an artist in glass creations.
Three good things:
1. We don’t discuss one book but listen to other’s recent journey into literary pleasures. A couple of examples:
Shirley Jackson.. author
The Lottery
The Haunting of Hill House

High Country Woman
Iris Scott- author - A NZ High Country book.
2. I thought I scrubbed up well for this afternoon with friends - longer hair and I’d used a straightener.
3. Forgot the bookI was reading, forgot the author, forgot to bring it with me - but then I’m not a good speaker so glad to get out of it!
What a lively looking lot you are.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond That's a nice thing to say, Jackie - two of our members have been really sick after serious operations, another one's husband died several months ago and another ones husband died a year ago!

Ooh Maggie your No 3, you are a scream ! It looks as if the afternoon tea was more important !!

You're not there though...looked really closely as I got the impression you were in the shot. You actually talk about the books, a proper book club not an excuse to drink gin then! I love seeing all your friends enjoying themselves together!
October 4th, 2018
@happypat I could have done a delay shot but there was nowhere to put the camera! We don't even drink wine - all our members have to drive home!

You clearly have an important role as book club photographer. It does look like a lovely home. And a very welcoming afternoon tea.

@helenhall That's my only claim to fame, Helen! They all talk of my good photography! 365 is my tutor!
October 4th, 2018
How very civilisied this looks, and love the soft focus too
October 4th, 2018
@fbailey Thank you - I find the process works well as long as you have the best focus. Softening face or the whole picture!

A beautiful picture of your book club. The afternoon tea looks delicious.
Is it okay to show your photo to my book club?
October 4th, 2018
@gijsje Certainly and that is a good idea - most of us have bookclubs to go to!
October 4th, 2018
great shot of all the ladies and you did scrub up well
October 4th, 2018
@grammyn No, I'm not in this one, Katy! There normally are about 9 of us but others are either overseas or otherwise engaged.
October 4th, 2018
What a totally civilized afternoon! And laughing about your forgetting the book title. I find when reading books on Kindle and not seeing covers, I never remember the book I'm reading and often forget the authors since I so rarely see their names.
October 4th, 2018
@taffy You have just reminded me - I had my kindle in my camera case and could have talked about the book I last started in that!
October 4th, 2018
Hee hee ...this made me smile. Good to have regular get together times with friends.
October 4th, 2018
Great capture of everyone!
October 4th, 2018
@maggiemae That relieves me because I didn't think you could have changed that much in such a short time and I didn't see anyone that looked even remotely like you!
October 4th, 2018
@grammyn Thanks for that, Katy - really made me laugh!

Your club members are all lovely. I’m sure you look great with curly hair too! My book club is really a book review club, we have book reviewers who come and present books they’ve read. I like that because then if I want to go buy the book I will, but if it doesn’t suit me I haven’t spent money on it. I’m sure I’ve told you this, but I love your tortoise shell glass frames.
October 5th, 2018
@louannwarren That's virtually what we do too.
You can make notes of the ones you want to read. We also put books into the bin that can be shared with no cost!
October 5th, 2018
That sounds like a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Very funny about not remembering the book, I'd be the same :)
October 5th, 2018
@inthecloud5 The others all came prepared with several books including a notebook to write in! Gracious, I was a renegade!
October 5th, 2018
Looks like a fun group, always enjoyable to share time with interesting friendly people. Not to worry about the book, these things are sent to try us.
October 5th, 2018
Great group shot!
October 5th, 2018
A great looking group. #2 You look pretty with your new do :). #3 I bet you're a good listener :).
October 5th, 2018
Good shot of the Book Club! I'm in a book club too and without it, I doubt I'd read such a variety of books.
October 5th, 2018
Looks like a great friendly bunch of people. Always good to get the insight into new books from people. A cuppa, a chat and sandwiches and cakes sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon.
October 5th, 2018
@seattlite
Sorry Gloria - that's not me - I'm behind the camera lens!
October 5th, 2018
@onewing Actually what our parents and grandparents used to do, Babs!
October 5th, 2018
A wonderful place and time to meeting. Great light and soft focus,
October 5th, 2018
@haskar Much better than morning tea, do you think?
October 5th, 2018
Such a lovely looking group. We do pretty much the same at our BC, except that we are 10 and do it in the evening. Each one in turn hosts and has to buy the books. We also each only talk about the book we have just read. That sometimes takes longer than intended ;-)
October 5th, 2018
@ludwigsdiana I think that would be very social but a bit of a challenge and comparison of views. You would not just be able to say - I thought it was rot"?
October 5th, 2018
Want to join your book club!
October 5th, 2018
@brennieb I don't blame you - what with scones, jam and cream, chocolate truffles, club sandwiches and date and walnut cake, not to mention great coffee and tea!
October 5th, 2018
What a hoot! Delighted to see that you escaped the limelight by being the photographer. Successful ruse ;-)
October 5th, 2018
@maggiemae Well...I would like to see your new do then :).
October 6th, 2018
@seattlite I'll work it into my extremely busy schedule, Gloria! Thats in between naps!
October 6th, 2018
A wonderful capture of your beautiful friends. And the table goodies look delicious! :)
October 8th, 2018
Well, that looks like a very elegant and inspiring place to discuss literature. Nice group shot!
