BACK HOME

I found a Wasps nest in the garden early in the year. It was in a bird nesting box and appeared not to be large enough as they built extensions with paper thin walls. However it was abandoned and till today did not know where they were now nesting. It is underground down a long tunnel, maybe an old Mouse hole. I spent a while with the camera lens pointing into the hole with several slightly annoyed Wasps buzzing around my head but finally caught one of them in flight and just about in focus.
this is a very cool capture

Very brave of you Mark -- glad you were not stung ! I had a similar one in my flower border for years-- down a small hole well underground I blocked one entrance only to find they had a front & back door !! as they emerged from another hole a foot or so away !! They eventually disappeared of their own accord --some years later !

Brave of you - we found a bee's nest in the garden shed this year and that was a distinctly painful experience!

@virtualbrownie Thank you very much Brownie, there is normally at least one nest every year, either in the garden or roof of the house. Rarely a problem.
