This is two pairs of Coots, who appear to have a problem with each other. They are all in full display posture, trying to make themselves appear as large and threatening as possible. Sometimes this results in one of the birds simply retreating and the stand off is resolved. However these two pairs looked as though they had a serious problem and neither side would back down.
I could see there was a grave danger of more drastic actions.
