@gardencat Thank you Joanne, yes they are, which is why you should never leave whole peanuts out at this time of the year. They can choke nestlings, however, the mesh on this feeder only allows them to peck bits out, not get a whole one.
@markp That's good to know, will remember to skip the peanuts next time I fill my saucer type feeder. Haven't seen any young ones yet but better to be on the safe side. We did have a baby cardinal around last year, later in the season.
