FEEDING ORANGE TIP

Orange Tip Butterfly feeding in the garden on Hedge Garlic (Alliaria petiolata ). This wild flower has loads of other common names, Garlic Mustard, Jack-by-the-Bush, being just two of them.
Look closely at the butterfly and you should be able a black curved tube going from its head down to the flower. This is its Proboscis, it is like a drinking straw and allows the butterfly to suck up the nectar from the flower.

In this shot, the butterfly stands out quite well, and its easy to see where its name comes from. However if it closes its wings, that is a completely different matter and it becomes very difficult to spot.
