EARL SIGURD by markp

EARL SIGURD

Orkney ferry MV Earl Sigurd approaching the ferry terminal at Whitehall Village, Stronsay.
The approach to Stronsay is quite interesting to watch, after rounding the north corner the ship follows a large "S" shaped course specially dredged out for the boats. Just after this shot the boat then spins right round and reverses back to the pier and loads and empties from the rear.

As you can see it was a very still sea, the water was also extremely clear, and it was an amazing sight as we sailed away from Stronsay to stand on the boat and watch the sandy bottom pass underneath us. It did not look deep enough for the boat to float in.
