Squirrel Destruction

For some of you who think squirrels are cute and harmless... This is an example of what they've done to half a dozen blue bird houses! They chewed up the roof and the opening. Consequently, my blue birds didn't nest here this spring and summer. Next time I buy a blue bird house, I'll use a metal plate over the opening so the squirrels can't chew it up. Don't know what to do about the roof? Would do no good to build a baffle around the pole. The squirrels would get to it jumping via the other trees around. You should see how they chewed up the humming bird feeders! Varmints!!!
Yep.....The chew lots of things. We had them chew through the bottom of our feed shed door because they discovered there was corn in there. We had to put metal around the edges of the door to keep them out.

WOW! What a pain, @Veronica! I hope it worked! I had to put rat traps out to scare them away from the humming bird feeders. The traps never catch them and I don't expect them to, but when they trip them - ha ha - scares them real good! Has helped to keep them from chewing up the humming bird feeders. Not so with the bird houses... my poor male blue bird just sang his heart out all summer but no females would nest in these chewed up houses!

@cheribug Squirrels are very destructive, especially when they're overpopulated. We need an open season on them around here! LOL!
