What defines a cowgirl? Is it her horse or the truck she drives? What about her boots and hat? Could it be her trophy belt buckle? Horses that can no longer afford to be fed, have to go to another home. Trucks have to be sold. Boots wear out and hats lose their shape. Trophy belt buckles are won and lost. No. I believe a cowgirl is defined by her attitude and her willingness to get back up on the horse that threw her and ride like the wind to over come the trials of her life. But no one could put it quite like my favorite heroine... "Cowgirl is an attitude, really. A pioneer spirit, a special American brand of courage. The cowgirl faces life head on, lives by her own lights, and makes no excuses. Cowgirls take stands. They speak up. They defend the things they hold dear. A cowgirl might be a rancher, or a barrel racer, or a bull rider, or an actress. But she's just as likely to be a checker at the local Winn Dixie, a full-time mother, a banker, an attorney, or an astronaut." Dale Evans Rogers, Los Angeles, 1992
One of the greatest collages that I've seen yet! Great selfie with a lovely horse. Love each item here. Take them all away, and you've still got the "cowgirl!" Hang on, Maggie. :)
And now I know what defines a cowgirl! Lovely collage! I don't know you well but, based on what I've seen of your work and your comments on 365, I'll say you are a cowgirl. Most definitely. Pleased to meet you, and I hope to learn about speaking up and facing life head-on from you! 8)
What a great collage. My Dad was born in Montana and we got to visit there when we were young. So many things in your collage remind me of him. The boots, I bought him his first really nice belt buckle and belt for a holiday, both of which he was buried in, along with his cowboy hat. Good memories of things he had. Love all of your photos that make you who you are. Nicely done.
One period in my life was then I weared cowboy hat, cowboy boots, jeans, belts and loved horse riding very much. Now I´m gonna miss this time! Thank you for sharing, wonderful picture and fantastic lifestyle!
Love this collage! Excellent composition! Also really enjoy the narrative and defining a cowgirl.... when I was 2 I had this awesome cowgirl outfit that I wore every day until it had to be pried off bc I loved it so much...also a spring horse named Buck!
@myautofocuslife Aww! Livia, thank you so much! You are such a sweet and gentle person. Me - not so much. LOL! Appreciate all your comments, gal - more than you know! =)
Hey Maggie, I thought I'd pop back to see how you are doing.....rather well by the look of this collage...superb narrative...great collage...beautiful selfie...oh and you look like your Mum too....so I can see where you get your good looks from :)
@phil_howcroft It's good to see your smiling mug, Phil! How are you? What have you been doing? Don't you miss us? LOL! Thank you for your kind comments! As always, you are too sweet!
@marlboromaam Maggie...I went a week without taking a photo ....bliss or what ? :).....I'm fine thanks :) ...Of course I miss the 365'ers and some more than others (especially one's who have big cowgirl hats....well that narrows it down to about 1 !!!).....great to see you are cracking on with your project and still producing awesome pictures....We had a load of snow at the weekend...great for photos :) ....especially after a week off !
aew, i loved reading that, and i love your collage!! those photos go perfectly with what was said. i really like and admire that you know who you are and you love to share that with others. Really beautiful.
Nice words! I was thrown off last weekend, couldn't ride for a week and I hated it. My bum is still black and blue, but this weekend I was in the saddle again ;)
@phil_howcroft LOL! Stay warm in all that cold snow! I'll keep "cracking" away at it and be right here! You've missed some fantasies, ya know? Ha ha! Think about coming back now! Would be fun!
@smallenburg Ouch! I take it there were no permanent injuries then. Glad to know you got back in the saddle. Thank you for the comments and the view, Sandra! Much appreciated!
@marlboromaam sounds like what my parents have been going through for the last 8 years :( But you know what, they still have their family and they still have eachother....and as corny as it sounds, that is all that matters!! always think positive :)
I think you just defined who I am. I grew up in a wealthy town, in a fairly wealthy family. Now I live in a very old, run down home that's been in my boyfriend's family over 100 years. I have over 80 animals and I've had 47 surgeries. I drive a truck but I own an old convertible. I also own a cow(girl) hat and I LOVE country music. The list could go on, but I'll just say I love this collage!!
@keyt427 Keyt, I think Dale Evans sort of defined many women with that statement. =) You and me among them. There are those who hate the whole "genre" of cowgirls or cowboys just because they don't like what they will stand up for... it's sad really. At one time, there was not a child in this country who did not want to grow up and embody the morals and ethics taught by our western heros and heroines on the silver screen. Now the silver screen of today makes excuses for bad morals and berates the good with a condescension of shame because of it. We've got to keep the "old ways" alive, if we can! What is good, right and true! =) Thank you for your thoughtful and kind comments. Now, I know more about you and I like it very much!
@kerristephens Thank you, Kerri!
@horselover Wow! Thank you, Jennifer and yes, ma'am - I'm honored! =)
