Some kind of caterpillar...

photo 282
I would NOT want to touch this guy with all his spiny, spiky hairs or quills! If I was a bird, I wouldn't want it in my mouth either! Ack! He was less than half an inch long - pretty small. Looks like he packs his own weapons!

It's been a creepy, buggy day! Not only have I uploaded three (3) bug shots, but certain things are really beginning to bug me, too! I wish people would check things out before they pass on bad information to others. My mother gets so upset with some of these emails people call her about and they never bother to check snopes.com or urbanlegends.com to see if they're true or not! I call that part of the problem with information today! Oiy!

Yes, it is amazing when a 5 year old email or post comes around about that "friend of the family's missing red headed daughter" and that we need to repost /send the message ASAp to save her. This c pillar is scary looking. Sometimes, they just look scary...I wonder if this one is packing some heat too? I am posting one in a few minutes for Sunday that is packing heat big time!

Very cool looking insect!

Having worked with information security for many years it is scary to see how thoughtless/naive/ignorant many are when it comes to sharing information without checking the credibility first. It bugs me too!

Furry and spiky! We have no such exotic bugs here in my garden. Just snails & ordinary green caterpillars. Starting to think the USA is a scary place for macro wildlife!
posted June 4th, 2012
Oh and wetas. They're fairly scary. I'll find one to photograph (with no macro).

posted June 5th, 2012
I like the color's in this guy! He does look like he could be harmful if he releases those spiky things!!
posted June 5th, 2012
What a fantastic shot, Maggie. I have never seen a caterpillar that looked like this. I would not touch it either.
I agree with you, so many forwards about so many untrue things that are not going to happen freak people out. They should check and see if they are true before forwarding to anyone. Unfortunately snopes is not always accurate so I have a friend to turn to who is into what is what and get his help.
posted June 5th, 2012
That is a great shot, Maggie! I like the detail of the caterpillar.
posted June 5th, 2012

@marlboromaam Feel free to send the link if you wish. He is behind as I have sent him two now. Usually I delete stuff that says there is a massive virus or other things but so many are so sneaky and send e-mails around that look so real. Have to be so careful not to get a virus from those. I send e-mails back to friends if they are just a link and ask if they have sent them or they have been hacked and usually they have been hacked. Sure do not want computer issues but so easy to have happen today. Nothing is too important to delete if questionable unless and e-mail from someone you know in text.
posted June 5th, 2012
@darsphotos It's from a friend of my mom and it's just a link to a video on Youtube. It's the video that's scary, my friend!
posted June 5th, 2012
@marlboromaam I would just not open links sent from this person in the future. Sad that these are being sent to your Mom. I would not consider this a friend or if a friend I would tell the person not to send them any longer. I have flat out told people what I think, or delete the person from my contacts and then it goes to trash. Good luck.

Yep, these buggers will cause you a lot of pain if they sting you. This is an excellent shot. Nice close detail.
posted June 5th, 2012
Actually, if you look at his attire - he's quite a fashionable fellow. Quite haute couture! Personally think he's quite beautiful. ;) Unfortunately until we all become non-gullible those emails will keep popping up. I just press delete!
posted June 5th, 2012
How wonderfully hairy is that? Cool.
posted June 5th, 2012
Well, first of all this an amazing shot of this furry fashion plate. 2nd, I will agree w/you on e-mails. There isn't anything that bugs me more when I get all these fwd e-mails that I've seen 1000 times at least---political and the bizarre (not checking Snopes) in particular ;-) I think the Saint had a photo of something like this recently.
posted June 5th, 2012
That is a lethal looking critter! I got one of those idiotic emails yesterday - at work. As if I don't have enough legitimate emails to go through! One of my co-workers sent it. I used to take the time to point out to them that it was false, but it does no good. I just delete.
posted June 5th, 2012
Oh Maggie! I love the detail in this shot... what a cool little creature....
posted June 5th, 2012
Amazing shot!! The critter is cool, but so is the pipe and the shape of the yellow in the background. Fav.

@grannysue Thank you, Linda! Grateful for your comments and visit! Mom doesn't have a computer. Her friends call her about the ones they get in their email. Her friend sent me a copy. This one was a link to a YouTube video... not good and very scary. I am not an alarmist! But, it was pretty frightening to say the very least.
