This is a shot of a small cowboy sculpture that once belonged to my dad. It's now mine and I say that with pride. It's not a Remington but, he liked it!
During the last good years of dad's life, we spent Sunday afternoons together as a family, either at dad and mom's house or mine. We always had a good dinner and we'd often watch a movie after. Dad taught me to love westerns and have a deep appreciation for the western cowboy actors like John Wayne. I love them all! Dad had lots of favorite westerns and I had my own, but we had one particular favorite that we both loved and enjoyed watching together. Who knew the whole movie was available to watch on YouTube?! For you dad and happy father's day! Mom and I miss you and our Sunday afternoons together. Enjoy when you have the time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czd7iRA-ga8
What a perfect Father's Day tribute to your pop, Mags. I'm sitting here in my recliner, with my laptop, three dogs surrounding me and watching John Wayne movies on my TV. Right now I'm watching BIG JAKE and when it's over I'm popping in THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER. I'll be thinking about you and your dad as I Duke Out! :-)
@cromwell Ha ha! A kindred spirit you are! Thank you so much for your wonderful comments! Really appreciate your support. Enjoy your movies and have a great father's day, Cromwell! Cheers! I may Duke out a little later myself... I think "Chisum" and "The Shootist" are due for another viewing! =)
What a fantastic post, Maggie. I love this photo as it is something that belonged to your Dad plus it is a gorgeous photo. You write so well, you should write a book or make more of your movies that you have posted. I am in awe and sorry your Dad is gone as is mine. My husband is taking a well deserved nap and will be in the pool later as it will be 102 today. BBQ for dinner. My husband loves John Wayne movies as did my Dad. We watched a lot of westerns growing up. Bitter sweet to me as everything my Dad gave to me over the years was stolen 3 1/2 years ago, but i have the memories and photos. Have a great day. Hugs!!
@marlboromaam -- THE SHOOTEST is my all-time favorite John Wayne film. I'd hate to tell you how many times I've watched it. Duke really gave an oscar winning performance in that. Too bad he wasn't even nominated for it. I like to show that one to those who claim John Wayne couldn't act, he just played John Wayne. I make them sit down and watch this, and then SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON, and if time allows THE SEARCHERS. After that they always walk away with a newfound appreciation for Wayne. :-)
@cromwell Thank you for your comments. Nice of you to remind me that they cannot take my memories or photos away from me. My husband loves that movie, SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON. He has so many old westerns and black and white movies. Have a great day.
@groovygirlrn It is, Sheri! Wonderful point! Thank you for your comments!
@darsphotos I'm so sorry your father's things were stolen, Darlene. @cromwell is right though, memories cannot be stolen from you as long as you have the mind God gave you. Thank you for your lovely and kind comments! Always appreciate your visit!
@cromwell No doubt, a great film! But shoot - I think I love 'em all! LOL! I think you either love the Duke or hate him. He was beyond a doubt one of the greatest Americans who stood up for the founding principles better than most ,aside from the late and great Ronnie "Ray-Gun." God bless 'em!
@paulineb Amazing dads who loved the Duke! Thank you, Pauline! Appreciate your lovely comments very much!
@sassik Thank you so much, Sassik! I'll see what I can do about giving you the whole piece in a pic!
@danette Thank you, Danette! It is a Remington to me! Appreciate your lovely remarks!

Awesome memories and shot Maggie! Everyone is posting such lovely tributes, I feel kind of bad for my attempt at a humorous post on Father's Day. Hope you have a great movie night!!!
What a lovely memento to have Maggie so nice to have precious things that remind you of your Dad. John Wayne was my father's favourite actor - he was very popular here in Aus., too.
@purdey Thank you for your sweet and lovely comments, Sharon! Most appreciated! You've got Hugh Jackman though... ::drool:: and some other wonderful actors that have been in some westerns.
This is so good Maggie! I have been trying to Dodge the Fathers Day Celebration today as it is still so fresh and it still doesnt seem real...Thankfully i had my Husband's Uncle to keep my mind off of it! This tribute though just brought tears to my eyes and a warm, warm feeling in my heart...My Dad was a Big Western/ History Lover too!! This brought back great memories! Thank you ! FAV!
@ellimae Aww! Big hugs, Ellen! I know how bittersweet it can be - it will always be that way. We just have to hang on to the good memories. I cling to mine. I imagine your dad and mine are having a good conversation with the Duke about all this right now. =) Thank you for your lovely comments and the fav! Always appreciated!
A great tribute. The cowboy statues of West are wonderful. I remember on Sundays having roast dinners, drinking black coffee and playing chess. As I got older cigars were added to the mix until we all stopped smoking. My family laughs but know it the weekend cause I love cooking roasts.
awe beautiful tribute! i love the green bokeh background you have managed to capture too!!! sounds like you were very close with your dad and reading your words makes me wanna run home and hug my dad...
Great tribute to your Dad, I lost my Dad nearly 23 years ago at the young age of 62... I miss him everyday, I definitely was a "Daddy's Girl" he loved Westerns too, specially John Wayne and Clint Eastwood!!
What a beautiful tribute to your Father! And the photo of the statue couldn't be more beautiful. I love the green bokeh background. One of these days, I hope to be strong enough to honor the memory of my Dad in my project...
Lovely sentiments. Sorry I'm so late with this. Sounds like some great memories you have there. Your Dad lives in your memories, and it sounds like he does with quite a bit of pride.
Such a nice sculpture, I used to watch western movies with my dad when I was child. I don't anymore maybe I should... my favorite was Man of the East, it is Italian film about wild west, but its great and funny :)
