UPDATE: This appears to be a "carolina wren" egg. A friend of mine just corrected me! Thanks Mel! It's too small to be a cowbird egg and the shell is almost pink and the spots are deep red. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Wren
Found this little egg on the ground yesterday. Looked, but no nest found. Photo opp!!!
Sorry for the all-at-once upload. Jack arrived this morning and I've been busy getting him settled for his stay. Stay tuned for a few pics of him to come! Will work to catch up with your pics now. =)
It looks like a cow bird egg. They never build nests. They lay their eggs in other birds nests and a lot of the time the other birds toss them out. I don't know if you have those crazy birds where you live but maybe. lol cool shot:)
I wonder what kind of egg this is? Pam seems to think it looks like a cow bird egg. I wouldn't know. I just love this shot! Btw, congrats on PP for "The Dream".
My Google searches tell me this is a raspberry finch egg, AKA purple finch or house finch... which explains the mess of moss and pine straw below and in one of my hanging asparagus ferns. Looks like something got into it and this little egg was missed in the fall.
@darsphotos Thank you, Darlene! Appreciate your comments! Jack it a little rat terrier. I'm dog sitting while his owners are on vacation in Wisconsin. It's nicer for Jack because he doesn't get stuck in a kennel and I love his company. He's such a good little dog and so well behaved. This is from his last visit with me... http://365project.org/marlboromaam/365/2011-11-30
@marlboromaam He is a beautiful dog, Maggie and so lucky to spend time with you. I hope it goes smoother this time and he adjusts faster. Amazing how animals get so connected to their owners. Thanks for the link to see him. Enjoy!!
@sharritta Thank you so much, Sharon! Appreciate your comments! You may pin anything of mine you like without having to ask. I am honored! Just let me know what you've pinned. =)
We have cowbirds...the ones with the brown heads and black bodies are cool looking. Is that egg still there? I read your whole thread but did not see....
@espyetta This is a house finch egg, MaryBeth. (aka raspberry finch or purple finch) It's way too small to be a cowbird egg and it's pinker and the spots are more red.
