I never would've found it based on what it looks like now. The plant ID websites don't provide many images of wild plants in their latter stages of life. But the southeastern USA plant ID folks came through. Commonly known as coastal bedstraw, the reply I got was... "This is an interesting native plant called Galium bermudense, formerly called Galium hispidulum, coastal bedstraw. The flowers are tiny, white, and have 4 petals. It is in the Rubiaceae, Coffee Family." Imagine that! Someone knows I love coffee. More info on it here - http://namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=3363 and more good info here - http://coastalplainplants.org/wiki/index.php/Galium_hispidulum
@kvphoto Ha ha! Thank you, KV! This tiny little thing found a spot to grow up the lattice work around the deck. I'm going to leave it and let it go. No weedwhackers! LOL!
@marlboromaam now if only those were actual coffee beans... you could harvest, roast them, grind them, and make some coffee. I love all the dark roasts... French, Italian, Espresso, Sumatra.
@kvphoto LOL! I don't think there's enough there to make a cup. But it's a great thought. I love my dark roast Columbian in the morning and I don't mind a flavored coffee in the evening. I used to buy some great chocolate/rasberry beans that were devine! Can't find them now. All of the good coffee shops with fresh roasted beans around here have gone out of business and I like to smell the beans before I buy.
@marlboromaam I hate to say that I’m pretty lazy these days and use my Keurig... it makes a great cup. Recently I got out my old coffee pot because I missed smelling the freshly ground beans... through Costco I ordered 4 - 1lb bags of Peet’s Major Dickason’s blend... it smelled so good and had nice, dark, oily beans. After my 4 lbs were used up I put all that away and went back to the Keurig... much less messy but expensive per cup.
@kvphoto Will you laugh at me if I tell you I still use a Melita and grind my beans when I've got them? LOL! If I can't get good beans, I'll buy Folger's dark roast Columbian and use my Mr. Coffee. One scoop makes a good strong six cups and that's about two and a half mugs for me in the morning. I like the proverbial cowboy coffee in the morning. Strong enough to stand up a horseshoe. Ha ha!
@milaniet Thank you, Milanie! I know, not everyone cares to learn about what they find and shoot. When I was here nine years ago, I was asked so many questions about what I found and shot, I just got used to researching it before I posted. I enjoy it though and like to learn about what grows around me. =)
@cdcook48 Ha ha! Thank you, Chris!
@sherimiya Thank you, Sheri!
@bkbinthecity Thanks, BKB!
