It's not officially summer until June 21, but it feels like we're smack dab in the middle of it with the heat and humidity. This is Solanum carolinense - commonly known as Carolina Horsenettle or Ball-nettle. It's native to the Carolinas and Georgia and naturalized well beyond state lines. More info on this thorny plant with it's bunch of banana looking centers here - http://namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=1408
Haven't seen any blooming here yet (though we seem to have matching horrid weather) but that may be because I'm not able to get to my usual places to find this This is a lovely composition of the horsenettle
We're starting to get the heat too and I'm not too thrilled, lol. Stay cool out there, especially as you photograph beautiful flowers like this. Lovely shot!
