Gorgeous light - is that the plant we get the SUMAC spice from?
September 6th, 2022
Lovely shades of green… I love to see the sumac when the colors change… often it is bright orange or red.

It looks a little different then the Sumac we have here. It is such an interesting plant/tree. I am not sure what it is lol

@rensala and @pamalama We have a few varieties of sumac native to South Carolina. 1. Poison Sumac 2. Fragrant Sumac 3. False Poison Sumac 4. Staghorn Sumac 5. Smooth Sumac and 6. Winged Sumac... Rhus coriaria shrub (sumac), is a variety which is typically found in high plateau areas of the Mediterranean like Sicily, due to its wild, rocky lands. Sumac also grows in Turkey and can be found in parts of Iran. I've never heard of any of the American varieties of Sumac used to make spice, but the native Americans used Staghorn Sumac for medicinal purposes. Hope this answers your questions and thank you, Ladies. =)

@kvphoto Thank you, KV and you are right - bright orange and red leaves.

@pdulis Thanks, Peter.
