Beautiful colour gladioli they remind me of childhood, my dad used to grow them for market in huge long rows. My sister and me used to go down the rows picking up the flowers he dead headed and suck the nectar which was very sweet, it was over 65 years ago we used to love it!! I couldn’t see it happening in this day and age times have changed so much.
@craftymeg Thank you, Margaret. I can appreciate your beautiful story and you are so right about the times that have changed. Not for the better I have to say. My grandmother grew these, dahlias and more in her garden and we weren't allowed to touch them until decoration day up at the church - when they were cut and gathered for decorating family graves. It was a lovely sight to see with home-grown flowers from everyone's gardens all over the cemetery and that was more than 60 years ago. The greatest generation and the last generation to carry on with these marvelous traditions.
