You can't be outside five minutes before you're covered in sweat and your clothes (what little you have on - I'm talking shorts and tank top) just stick to you like you walked into a very hot sauna. Ugh! Best to stay inside with the AC. Stay cool and hydrate! No outdoor projects this week.
We took Sugar up to Home Depot (her favorite store) and got a parking spot close to the front… we were concerned about hot pavement. Sugar enjoyed seeing all of her favorite associates and getting a lot of love. It is just too hot to walk her outside… the air conditioned store was nice though.
@kvphoto Yes, mighty hot out there. Will gets a few minutes to run in the grass and do his business a few times a day and then mom has to get back in the house. It's so nice Home Depot lets dogs in the store. I've never seen one in Lowe's. I know he'll be glad to get more outside time as soon as the heat subsides some. He would not be as well behaved as Sugar in a store. LOL! All those people to give him attention - he'd bark until he got it too. =)
Our best treatment for situations like this, which are very frequent throughout the long Summer months is to go swimming in the open sea for an hour or two and that would keep our body fresh till it's time to go out in the evening.
@marlboromaam that is too funny that Will would bark for attention… Sugar just goes up to people and expects the attention and most people give it to her. She loves people so much. Lowe’s, Cabelas, Bass Pro, & Tractor Supply are all places you can take your do shopping with you.
@kvphoto As if he doesn't get enough from me. He will bark and run up and rub around your legs like a cat! LOL! I've tried to teach him better manners, but he just ignores me. Any suggestions? I've got to get him to quit jumping up on people and quit with the barking.
@marlboromaam We’ve been lucky with Sugar… she just doesn’t jump up on people… with our other dogs if they tried to jump up on us we would give them a stern no and a knee out to stop them… that discouraged the behavior pretty well. Sugar tends to slide up to people, lean against their legs, slide down and land on their feet. I only allow her to do this when it is “welcomed” by the recipient… otherwise I keep her on a firm leash. Luckily she really doesn’t bark much but when she does it is loud! To stem the barking you could try a penny can… pennies in an aluminum can and when he barks shake it to make a loud noise and say “no bark.” It worked with our Shelties. Hope some of this helps.
@kvphoto Oh dear. A stern NO only works for some things with Will. The pronged collar the vet recommended has worked to keep him from pulling me off the deck. LOL! But when he sees someone he wants attention from - it has little effect. I've tried the knee and holding my arms up (worked for my horse) and that doesn't work. The pennies in the can worked for my basset hound to keep her from barking, but not for Will. Now we're trying the vinegar in a spray bottle, but I think he likes it! LOL! Popping his little bottom doesn't work either, but I won't pop him hard enough for him to yelp. He's great with just me, but he needs some socialization around other people. I may have to find us a class! =)
@larrysphotos Agreed! I'll just have to get his pool out of the shed. But it won't take long for the water to heat up.
@corinnec Thank you, Corinne. It will be nice again, come October. LOL!
