Terminix was here last week to inspect my house for termites. No termites, but they said too much humidity in my crawl space... So, have to get it encapsulated and that's going to cost a lot. A very unexpected expense. Getting several estimates to have it done.
@craftymeg Thank you, Margaret. My thermometer came from Amazon. =)
@rensala Crawl spaces are under houses where the piers are, if you haven't built on a concrete slab. They're enclosed and usually only room to "crawl" around in them. We're a lot closer to the equator than you are. =)
One never stops with house maintenance - there's always something! I think in my next life I want to own a mud and straw hut.
Heat - we’re heading far too fast into this kind of heat again, by next month it'll start, and by December it'll be a sauna of about 38°C until about June. There are low-pressure zones loitering around already, incredible. Our humidity goes up to 90%, can you believe. The air-cons literally conk out. Ugh. Oh well. The upside of all that means I get to drink a LOT of water, which in our cooler months I tend to ignore and don't drink nearly enough of.
@cocokinetic I feel your pain, Karen! The heat is bad enough, but when the humidity is high - it's far worse. People in the Mediterranean don't understand what humidity is or what it does and how your sweat can't evaporate and your clothes just stick to you like glue. It's like walking into a wall of hot water when you walk outside!
