Under the mocker nut tree... Best viewed large, if you will.
You can see the woodpecker hole rows all the way up the tree. Mocker nut wood is very hard with bark like an old fashioned scrub board! Hasn't seemed to harm the tree at all. This tree is in the hickory tree family. The nuts look like hickory nuts but, they aren't fit for human consumption. It is a great shade tree in the summertime, too!
@cimes1 Mockingbirds don't normally hang out in the deep shade or woods, Carole. I've never seen mockingbirds in this tree. Not a great tree for small nests. However, lots of tree rats like to do their damage to the leaves and branches among some bugs and caterpillars. Of course, I see the woodpeckers, too - mainly the little downy.
