My little satyr sits by the concord grapevine that just won't grow well in this heat. Still if you listen quietly, you can hear him playing his pan pipes in the evening light. Right now, he's piping The Stars and Stripes for a Happy July 4th holiday! We must remember... Freedom is NOT FREE and many have died, beginning with our fight for independence, so that we may live as we have done in so many years past.
For those who don't know what a "satyr" is, it's a Greek mythological creature - half man and half goat. Pan was the Greek god of wine. Thus the "pan" pipes. For more about Pan and satyrs, a simple Google search turned up this interesting link... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satyr Greek mythology is fascinating and full of some wonderful stories.
I love to hear the pan flute. We have some cd's by zamfir and we love them--so very soothing. Love that your little satyr is piping lovely music. Have a wonderful Independence Day.
@sailingmusic Don't worry Myrna, I thought it was a telephone.... And then a microphone. It as only when I read the text that the pan pipe became visible. So with me it's not only the eyes, it's the head as well!! :)
@lynnb Maybe, Lynn! I don't recall any specific story about him being a trickster. I can recall some of the other major Greek Gods using their powers to trick humans though. Thank you for your comments and visit! Always appreciated!
@sailingmusic It's not real clear what he's holding with my POV, Myrna. I'm sure your eyes are just fine! Thank you for stopping by!
Happy 4th of July!
