It was the year 1525. Rotterdam had an enclosed city wall, gates and towers. Inside lay the 'Steiger' Rotterdams oldest port. The access to this port had towers on both sides.
It was 1989. A small part of the old city wall and the tower on the west side entrance was excavated before the new railway and metro station Blaak was built.
The remains were preserved after the excavation and later built in the new station, floating above the railway traces.
