Four with Madonna and flowers by mcsiegle

Four with Madonna and flowers

My tags for the tag challenge were B&W and Children. I'm cheating here and using pictures of me and my siblings (I'm the one on the far left.) My mother displays these on her side table with this statue of the Blessed Virgin and the infant Jesus. I've re-arranged and put the vase with fake flowers there. I actually prefer a shot I took without the statue better:

I think the lines are cleaner and it just looks like a better composition to me (though I welcome your feedback). I felt guilty putting up that one without the Madonna (on Friday's date to fill in). My mother really likes that statue. It had belonged to my mother-in-law, and while it is very sweet and pretty, it's just not my style. I have lots of other beautiful things from Frank's mother, so I gave it to my Mom, who admired it.
Extremely well composed and photographed!

The personal touch of the statue would make a print of this shot a lovely gift for your mother - perhaps for her wallet or travel away from home but I agree about the composition without it - beautiful use of monotone (I can't actually discern either black or white in the image and it gives it a lovely softness)
