Use Less Stuff Day by mcsiegle

Use Less Stuff Day

Well, here we are at week two of the dinosaurs' photo shoots without the 365 Toys to play with and get a theme from.

The themes committee chose "Use Less Stuff Day" which is today. I will quote from the calendar web site where they found it:

"In a world with rapidly diminishing natural resources, conservation is incredibly important. Use Less Stuff Day is all about re-using, patching up, recycling and handing things down rather than throwing them away and buying new things."

This time all the dinosaurs (and Neanderthal Man) went off looking for locations to shoot. They had the cheek to point out to me all the excess stuff in the house. Here is just a small sampling of what they found (and my justifications!)

Starting with the music media storage room. OK, I admit we have an excess of LPs and cassettes and CDs. But I pointed out that at least we weren't junking the LPs and replacing with CDs. They did give me that.

Pie Plates...Neanderthal Man found this stack. Hey, it's USE less stuff day, not OWN less stuff day, and many of those aren't used much. Ouch. I guess that's not a really good response.

Dimetrodon and Plesiasaurus rummaged around in the bureau drawers in the back room and found them stuffed with old photos from past years when the medium was film. OK, sigh, I probably took too many photos and failed to cull all the duds. I think I can persuade one or two of the dinosaurs to help me go through those one of these days.

Paper towel rolls! The Rhamphorhynchus found those...Yes, we've got rags and I really don't need to use those paper towels at the rate I do.

This has been a demoralizing theme week for me. I hope the themes committee comes up with something with less potential to be judgemental for next week. Hmmmm....should I bribe the committee members?
I laughed and laughed. I could take those pictures too. I love my albums, but some of the cassettes were home made mix tapes with my dad's voice in the background telling me to turn it down. Culling the old pictures. I can't bear too, and yet I know the way they are now, even I never look at them.

Oh dear this reminds me of all the clearing out we did before we moved, and we've now inherited another load of 'stuff' .....

hey - that stuff is vintage! not useless ;p

Mary - it looks like your get pushed partner is missing in action... if you want to wait to see if someone else comes along needing a partner this week, that's fine...

or you can take a challenge which i'm going to offer you which is to randomly choose some settings on your camera and find a way to use them to create art :)

@northy thanks. Since my camera died, I've been using the iPod with virtually no settings. BUT there is a camera on the cell phone. Not a particularly great one, but a few variables that can br adjusted. And I've not really used it except last week's get pushed, when both iPods were being used as lighting. So if I can explore the capabilities of the cell phone, then sure, I accept the challenge. I did leave a challenge for the partner you assigned, so if she reappears and gives me a challenge, or if there is someone else who needs a partner, let me know and I'll be more than happy to be paired up and take on whatever they come up with. Thanks.
