Also known as Surprise Lilies. The leaves wither away and are gone by the time they are ready to bloom. So the stalks come up out of the earth “naked” — surprise! In this case, I had let the side yard become a jungle that I was trying to clear when I spotted one of the Lillies sticking up out of the mass of vegetation. They were truly the “unseen” in all that undergrowth, which is the theme given me by Miseria @miseria for my get pushed challenge.
Hah! This picture brought back a long forgotten memory of a story my grandfather used to tell about the Naked Ladies. I haven't thought about it since I was a kid, let alone took the time to look up what a Naked Lady flower looks like. I never knew why they were called that... and now I know!
