Sunset Cemetery by mcsiegle

Sunset Cemetery

For my get pushed challenge from Elena @theredcamera to "take a landscape photo using a small f stop, get as much in focus as you can." I went to the cemetery here in town to pin down the location and photograph the headstone of one of Frank's relatives so he could go the next day with flowers for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Also (ulterior motive) it was beautiful outside, and I knew it would be the perfect place to take shots for the get pushed challenge. This is not the gravestone I was tasked with finding -- that of Anna (Siegle) Blakeslee and her husband. She was a sister of Frank's grandfather. But this is another of his granddad's sisters. Here is a monument to Kate (Siegle) Briggs and her husband.

I found the cemetery ideal for trying out the small f stop and trying for deep focus. Easy to test out by zooming in on the shot and checking to see what gravestones in the distance can be read. In this one I can easily read the one just beyond the Briggs' -- "Beebe" it says on one side of the base and "Barnes" on the other. In the upper portion "died Dec 22 1870 in the 65 yr of his age." Also very plain is "Sarber" on the pinkish stone to the left -- and way in the back in the center a dark gray stone in the shadows says "Jones." So, I'm well pleased with this one. I'm sure it could be more sharply focused than that, but I'm just beginning to get comfortable with this camera, and it's not a high-end camera so I'll cut it some slack. Sometime I might go back earlier in the day with more light. It was after dinner when I went.
A Nice composition and your eyes are a whole lot better than mine if you can read all those headstones

Not only is it nice to see so much in focus, the light from the lowered sun is lovely on the trees in the background is lovely.

Very nice, Mary, this is definitely what I had in mind. I really like the iris in the foreground and the large memorial stone on the right pushes your eye left deeper into the scene. The large tree in the center, and deep in the background is nice and prominent. The long focus is perfect for this landscape.
