Children playing with water to celebrate New Year at the Songkran water-splashing festival in Vientiane, Laos.
Initially young children poured scented, flower water over statues of Buddha while elders cleaned the houses ready for the Lao New Year. The anointing of statues later becomes a boisterous throwing of water at passers-by.
The official festival lasts for three days from April 14 to April 16.
