Jo @joeymc challenged me to shoot opposites this week. I immediately thought "fire and ice." Making the ice candle holder was not quite as easy as the internet implies, but I finally got one. Then came lighting. Candle glow was just too low and the flame was very blurred. When I decided to use some light and try a black background I was able to close down my aperture and bring the flame into better focus. I caught a light burst too! By the time I finally got something I could shoot my candle holder was well on its way to melted, as you can see from the drip on the right. I just kept shooting until the ice collapsed. So, my first "opposite" of the week .. fire and ice...and I see I was in too much of a hurry and this challenge actually starts tomorrow. Learning!
@panthora Thank you. I had thought I might be able to do that when I was using only the candlelight, but I had to resort to a light source other than just the candle. Might try again, without the ice though.
Wow, this is amazing. I love the ice candle holder and how it's melting. So creative and clever and a definite fav. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.
Beautiful still life! I love how you composed this, the lighting that brings out the detail in the ice! Personally I think you exceeded your challenge! Fav!
