Monks House by megpicatilly

Monks House

Monks House was the home of writer Virginia Woolfe. and her journalist husband, Leonard. They bought the house in 1919 and entertained many visitors connected with the Bloomsbury group, including T S Eliot and E M Forster. Virginia suffered from severe depression and one day in March 1941, she walked into the River Ouse and drowned. Leonard remained at the house until his death in 1969, the painting by the window is of Leonard.
Simple but elegant. Fav!

@joysabin thank you for the fav - there are now houses opposite - think they would have been horrified if they were still living!

@fbailey I love the way everything is preserved as if they were about to walk through the door. A wonderful atmosphere - I could just imagine the house parties.

Everything I've read or seen about VW emphasises her sad story. By contrast, her erstwhile home, oozes serenity.

@s4sayer She did suffer from such depression but you are right about her home - it had a very serene feel about it.
