Had hoped to post a fireworks shot tonight (finally learned how to shoot them last year) but they've been totally banned almost statewide because of the severe drought. So while trying to get a decent shot of the hummingbird, this spicebush swallowtail showed up on my flowers. As the saying goes, a bird in the hand ---. Happy Birthday, USA.

Sorry that you aren't able to have your celebrations, though - it seems so wrong to moan about our rain when you're all desperate for some. How are you coping with water shortages for drinking,washing etc?
@dulciknit Thanks for your concern - so far, though the lake has lowered considerably, they're not calling for any rationing of water. Though I know everybody is being more cautious lately.
