Two Gulps - All Gone! by milaniet

Two Gulps - All Gone!

Was almost finished my morning walk when I spotted this cattle egret standing in the middle of the field (the white caught my eye). I first thought he had some brush in his mouth - until I saw the curling up at the bottom. Two gulps and that snake was history.
Well done Mr cattle egret ! Great capture. I have never had much luck with cattle egrets, as soon as I reach for the camera they are goneski fav :-)

I see it grabbed the snake my the head. Why would you want to eat a live snake? Yuck!

@skipt07 I want to know how you eat it without using any other body parts - does he suck it down? One second the whole thing was hanging from his mouth, next second there was only about 5" left. I second "Yuck"!

We have lots of these egrets here in France, which visit the horses in our field and sometimes even hitch a ride on their backs. I like them even more now I realsie that they catch snakes!

That is fantastic Milanie. Great capture. What sort of snake would that be?

@terryliv Unfortunately, I don't know my snakes at all - hopefully just a black snake but I really don't have any knowledge on them. Try to keep my distance. Did think I was awfully lucky to catch this though.
