This unusual Seesicht (lake view) art-work by Roman Signer is a new installation on our lakeside. It is made up of an enclosed staircase with a window at the bottom which enables the visitors to go down to see what it is like below the surface of the lake. Depending on the weather various lights and hues can be experienced. Today after the heavy thunder storm last night, the water was all murky. Still I loved everything about it. And maybe there will be more pictures of this art work in my 365 project.
The ability to see the bottom of the lake will also serve as a reminder of the catastrophe of the area, when on 5 July 1887, a number of people died and as many as 650 lost their homes when the lake burst its banks. The ruins of the old houses lie only a few metres from the bottom of where this unusual stairway is to be sited.
