This is the access to "Seesicht (lake-view)" art-work by Roman Signer. A new installation on our lakeside. It is made up of an enclosed staircase with a window at the bottom which enables the visitors to go down to see what it is like below the surface of the lake. Depending on the weather various lights and hues can be experienced. Today after the heavy thunder storm last night, the water was all murky. Here you can see, how it looked like. http://365project.org/mona65/365/2015-06-08
The ability to see the bottom of the lake will also serve as a reminder of the catastrophe of the area, when on 5 July 1887, a number of people died and as many as 650 lost their homes when the lake burst its banks. The ruins of the old houses lie only a few metres from the bottom of where this unusual stairway is to be sited.
Beautiful strong shape - a great subject for a photo, especially the contrast between the natural lines of the lake and the straight lines of the structure. It must be quite claustrophobic though to go down the narrow steps into the water?
@vera365 Thanks vera. No it has absolutely nothing claustrophobic. Its only 5 meters under the water line. It's the artist funny interpretation of "lake view". And it's "art" I liked immediately.
Mona at first I was not sure what this structure was, but it seemed like it must have a important purpose. Thanks for sharing the details with us and the picture from beneath. What an awesome piece of art in your own backyard. :)
