O no, what do I read in the online papers,... today the bronze sculpture shorty is reported missing again. … (Pic from January 15)
Long story short: The not very good looking northern bald ibis, or waldrapp (Geronticus eremita) is a migratory bird. This bird was once widespread across in central Europe, with a fossil record dating back at least 1.8 million years. It disappeared from Europe over 300 years ago, and is now considered critically endangered.
There are believed to be about 500 wild birds remaining in southern Morocco, and fewer than 10 in Syria, where it was rediscovered in 2002. To combat this ebb in numbers, recent reintroduction programs have been instituted internationally.
The sculpture is a tribute to female Waldrapp Shorty who did not care that (s)he is a migratory bird and should fly to northern Africa in winter. The bird from a Bavarian breeding program lost on her first flight contact to her flock flying South and stayed over a cold winter 2013 in our region. She defied all attempts to get trapped and joined as an onlooker the local wildlife and survived the cold, the snow and the beeing alone. By know the real bird is with its family again and she has all my heart for being such a brave (still ugly) bird.
Artist Martin Chramosta made a sculpture for shorty. And this sculpture sitting in the small bay of our town is stolen again (happend before in 2014).
Wonderful pov, dof and lighting in this story, fav for me. Your story says a lot for Shorty, but not much for the low-life who stole the sculpture. Hope it's recovered.
