My Birthday Party by mozette

My Birthday Party

Today I had my birthday party early - by two weeks! - but it was also my parent's 45th Wedding Anniversary. So, I asked if we could have a gathering at my place of people and food and drinkies for a combined celebration...

At first it wasn't really accepted, but then today came around, and the weather turned out gorgeous, sunny, balmy and just plainly a typical Brisbane Spring Day! We were supposed to have rain today, but not a drop fell! Instead, we all hung out in the backyard of my place, at home-made food and my brother's home brew with Dad at the bbq in my car port.

As the day wore on, the shade of the Lilly-Pillys moved over my yard, making the sun not so hot and bringing a nice breeze to cool us off... everyone didn't want to move, and we all had gluten-free chocolate cake (Mum made it) and fresh cream with plunger coffee to end the day.

My only guest who showed - Graham Love, from my sci-fi writer's group - said that the others who I had invited were really missing out. And truthfully, I thought so too!

I wasn't expecting pressies - just friends and family showing up for lunch - but I received a few. My brother made the necklace and his girlfriend chose a gorgeous indoor bromiliad. Graham gave me a $30 gift voucher for Strand Bags and Aunty Helen gave me a bath towel set in my favourite colour! How gorgeous are those towels and the other gifts! I love the necklace as my brother made it himself completely... he has his mark on the back; and you should see that stone in the sun!

It's getting onto around 5:30pm. Everyone's been gone for over an hour, the house is tidy, washing up has been done... I don't feel like eating anything for dinner because of all the food I've eaten today. Might make myself a pot of tea and just chill out tonight with some raisin toast.
Truly a wonderful day with good food, friends and conversation. Those who didn't come missed out big time.

It sounds like it was a great family get together, and it is so much fun to have friends and family around during those special occasions. An early Happy Birthday to you Lynda, and a Happy Anniversary to your Parents

@loey5150 Gotta agree with there Mum... the ones who said yes to start with and then no when they received the invite in their inbox missed out on all the goodies! :D

@digitalrn It was a wonderful day, Rick. Such great weather too... it looked like rain about an hour beforehand, but then, it cleared up to a lovely day! And thank you for the early birthday wishes... Mum and Dad said they had a lovely Anniversary as it was just a lovely day to be with family. :)
