His personality: G looks the youngest (he's also shorter than the other boys) but he's actually the most mature. He's level-headed and rational and he holds his own in any company. G does not and will not mince his words.
I wanted a doll to represent how looks can be deceiving. I have often been mistaken for someone I am not. People look at me and assume things about me that just aren't right. It amuses me to no end. For instance, I've been told on separate occasions by perfect strangers that I look like a teacher. I guess I look like a patient person? Bland and mature? Or maybe a smug know-it-all? (I don't mean any disrespect to teachers! Heh.) In truth, I'm "irritable, intimidating and sarcastic". That's how my son describes me. (He knows me so well!) Hardly teacher-quality, am I?
Has anyone ever formed the wrong impression about you just from looking at you or talking to you for five minutes? Do you find it amusing or annoying?
You should really do a primer on posing and lighting. you do them so well.
What people think of me at first sight is both amusing, irritating and usually a bit off.
I love "G!" Great collage and he really knows his "fashion!" Glad to know that he doesn't mince his words. Great and interesting comment that you made, Livia. I'm not sure if I want to know how people look at me or judge me. I'm shy .. but will speak out if I have to. I'm really a quiet observer . . probably mistaken for aloof or snobbish. Whatever!! :)
This is so good, you gave this doll life. I get that all the time - people think they know me or strangers always tell me I look exactly like their cousin / friend / whatever. When I had short hair people thought I was gay. It doesn't bother me at all. I probably make the same assumptions about others all the time without intending to.
Thank you to everyone for dropping by! I read all your comments and I'm grateful for them. Your supportive words put a big silly grin on my face. Thank you for sharing your views on my question about wrong impressions, too!
@lil Buddha: My face turned as red as a horny baboon's butt cheeks to read your suggestion! *RED-FACED* I'm not fit to write a primer. I use the autofocus function for every photo. Ah, this is embarrassing. I also don't light anything because it's all just natural (late afternoon) light that comes in through the (glass) window. As for posing tips, I just pose them in a way I imagine would be realistic. I think about how a real person would stand or sit or look at the camera, and I do that with the dolls. I know this sounds ridiculously flat but I'm not sure if I can explain it better. *STILL RED-FACED*
@Mary: The light is just natural, late afternoon light that comes in through a glass window. It comes in from the left side and so you can see that, in my photos of the dolls, the shadows are almost always on the right side. All my indoor photos (of the cake, necklace, etc) are done the same way. I rely on natural light coming in through the window. With the smaller subjects, I usually place them on a piece of white typing paper for the background. Because they are small enough to be moved around on the paper, their shadow is sometimes on the left, the bottom or the right. But the lighting is still completely natural. I don't use any kind of lighting equipment. One big reason why I use natural light all the time is because I always use the autofocus function on my Lumix, and the camera takes the best pictures this way when there's plenty of natural light. I don't take indoor photos with artificial lighting, or night shots. I lack the technical know-how to make those situations work. I am, really, just the point-and-shoot type of photographer.
@karenann: Thank you! I am the same way. *LOL* I was a painfully introverted teenager but people at school used to think I was snobbish, proud or conceited. They thought I chose not to speak to them. The truth was, I had zero self-confidence and was so easily embarrassed, that I was always wishing the ground would open up and swallow me! Funny how reality can be so different from other people's perception. (But I grew up. Don't care anymore what people think. Heh.)
@Nadine S: The short hair! I can empathize! I have really short hair. (Similar to the style in your profile pic.) Whenever I go out with my best friend, who also has hair this short, I wonder if people think we're a gay couple. For one thing, they tend to assume we're not married. (Because we're gay?) It's highly amusing to us because we're both happily married people.
Again, I want to thank everyone for your time and comments. You're all very generous and supportive. Thank you so much.
Great collage! Being judged and judging were a huge part of my life. When I chose to stop judging and avoid those who continue to judge me, life opened up.
Great photos and collage. I am a thick skinned and really am not concerned with how people judge me. I was created in God's image as everyone. Have faith in yourself.
Excellent collage of "G". Very expressive. Yes, perceptions are an interesting subject. I'm afraid most of us have been misjudged numerous times based on numerous things. Count me among them.
I like G, he has a relaxed aura about him in the vein of seemingly laidback but sharp as a razor when the need arises. I think we all get misjudged sometimes, I often am until they get to know me. Then they see my quirky, creative side.
An excellent collage, these dolls are really something! Yes, I have had people form an opinion quickly upon looking at me. "What's wrong?" is a question that really irritates me, when I'm just deep in thought about something. (teachers are very smart and outgoing, I think it's a compliment!)
What can I say more after all those comments than :. I agree with it.
I wish to thank you for all you lovely/kind comments to my pic. Love to read them ,
I love the natural posing - a great collage that definitely shows personality.
I'm so extremely shy I'd hide in a cupboard rather than meet people......I have no idea what people think - can't torment myself that way :)
You sure had me fooled. I didn't even know your profile picture was a boy doll. I pictured you as this innocent little young girl that was a very good photographer. LOL The doll is exquisite and so life-like. He even has a personality.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone! Your comments on my photos are a great source of encouragement for me. And I do appreciate your opinions on the subject of first impressions. Thank you very much!
@Reba: These BJD dolls are 60cm (about 2 feet) tall and made of polyurethane resin. They are handcast and handstrung. The ones I own were made by a Japanese BJD company called Volks. The heads were customized and painted by different Japanese and Korean BJD artists. I buy their clothes from different sources including auctions on Yahoo! Japan. If you're interested in knowing more, you can google "BJD". There are many sites that explore the many different aspects of a BJD doll and the fun of being an owner of one. They do come in many different sizes, skin colors and styles. The smallest BJD will fit in the palm of your hand!
@myautofocuslife Thanks! I guess I like the natural light, too, because I love the lighting in your pictures. I also like it that you are a straight out of the camera person...that's kind of what I am.
What people think of me at first sight is both amusing, irritating and usually a bit off.

A few weeks ago someone suggested I was 'quite extroverted' - not quote right, given that I'm ridiculously shy and social-phobic...
