I was away for a while but I'm back. My mother passed away last week. I miss her and I wish I could talk to her again, but I know she is now in a better place and, at last, is completely free from pain.
This photo of an oncidium orchid (commonly called the dancing lady orchid because it resembles a lady in a beautiful dress with a big skirt) was taken last month when I visited the conservatory. Isn't it pretty? My mother used to grow this type of orchid.
My Lumix DMC FZ-18 is a digital compact camera and, as always, I used the autofocus function to snap this flower. Afterwards, I was happily surprised to see that I had, somehow, managed to get some depth of field in this shot even with the autofocus function. (Clearly, I am a clueless photographer!)
First of all, I want to tell you that I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom, Livia. I have been through the same thing. This beautiful photo is a wonderful tribute to her. And it turned out perfectly . . great clarity and color. You know that I'm "autofocus" person just like you . . maybe we're both clueless, but I don't care. Welcome back, Livia. :)
So sorry to hear about your Mom, Livia. This picture is a perfect tribute to her, since the dancing lady was something she loved to grow. She must have been warm and lively.
I love your photo of the dancing dolls orchid! I used to have one but, my thumb is not so green with house plants. You have my deepest sympathies about your mother's passing. It's never easy to lose a parent. But we can take some comfort in knowing we won't be parted long in the scheme of things. I look forward to seeing your pics! =)
My deepest condolences for the loss of your Mum. Mothers are wonderful people who make our lives whole. They are there when we need advice, a laugh, a shoulder to cry on or just want to talk to them over a cup of tea or coffee. And it's awful when they're no longer with us.
My Mum misses her Mum - my Grandma - terribly as she was a wonderful person. I miss Grandma because she was a wonderful cook, could play the piano and had a contagious laugh.
This is lovely photo of a gorgeous, vibrant orchid. It must reflect how much love of life she must have had.
Livia, I am so sorry also. I love this picture! Fav for me because it is beautifully done and I have never seen this type of orchid before. Glad to see you back. I always enjoy seeing you around (pictures and comments).
Prayers for your loved one, and you. She is looking down on you and smiling! Your mother is still there for you, remember that. I know it's a hard time in your life, I've lost several close people, but not my mother... but I know your mother is watching over you and smiling. This is a beautiful photo!
I am so sorry to hear that your mother passed away, but it must be comforting to know her pain is gone too. This is a beautiful shot and a lovely tribute.
i am so very sorry to hear your mother died. what a sad time it must be for you.
this flower is a wonderful tribute to her
she must have had some very beautiful flowers.
Oh Livia - I am really sorry that you have lost your beautiful mum. What a lonely time it must be for you. Mothers hold their childrens' hands for a while - their hearts forever. xox What a perfect way to remember your mum, with this gorgeous flower. Hugs from this heart to yours.
Warmest feelings of sympathy and condolences on the passing of your mum. Your positivity is inspirational and uplifting :). A very beautiful shot and composition.
What a very sad time for you at the moment. I hope you have beautiful memories of your Mum to keep forever in your heart. I extend my condolences to you.
I'm so sorry about your mom. We always miss our moms. The flower is beautiful with great dof. When you explained why the name, I can see the lady in the beautiful dress.
Extending my sympathies to you. Both of my parents have passed andI know how hard this is for you. The flower is beautiful and I saw the dancing lady right away. Great tribute to your mom and, yes, you have some nice DOF in the picture. Thinking of you.
OMG Livia~ I am so so sorry for your loss- sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Beautiful orchid! {{{hugs}}} for you Livia! xo (I missed your pics and comments BTW- I almost posted a comment last night on your earring pic- glad you are back!)
Livia, my heart goes out to you; I'm so sorry for what you've been through. This is a truly lovely photograph of a beautiful flower. The fact that your mother grew them suggests a tender and caring nature. Take very good care, Les x
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I know it is not a great time, but I think photography helps. Your shot of the beautiful flower is very appropriate. Nice.
Livia, so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my dad a few years back and we both loved reading. It is still hard for me when I read a good book and know he would have enjoyed it too. Look after yourself.
Please forgive me I can`t find the right words to tell how I feel sorry to you and all who`s left behind. I admire you strength to realize she`s on a better place now. and hope you`ve the same strength to live with it
The tribute is beautiful
Hi Livia, my condolences on losing your mother. This beautiful image is a moving tribute.
I also use a Lumix point-and-shoot and sometimes I'm able to get decent DOF but not when I'm actually trying. I am a somewhat lame photographer.
Firstly to say so so sorry to hear about your loss. Thanks for sharing the photo, and the explanation of why you chose it. I've never come across a dancing lady orchid before. Beautiful, and so well taken.
Sorry for the sad news and prayers for your mom...beautiful shot, I use a Lumix too for a P&S camera. It's actually a work camera but it comes n handy, overall it's very nice....
To everyone: Thank you. Thank you so much for your understanding, support and condolences. I find comfort in your kind words and I am very grateful. Thank you so, so much!
Oh, so sorry to hear about your mum Livia. This shot is a lovely remembrance of your mum. No wonder I haven't seen you around lately. My mum has orchid like this too. My thoughts and prayers are with you this moment.
Oh, Livia! I am so so sorry for your loss! It just crushes me to hear this! My prayers go out to you and your family! This is such a beautiful tribute!
I am so, so sorry about your loss......when I lost my mom I told God that I missed her very, very much and the answer that came was "she's better off with me than she is with you" and that really comforted me.
I am so behind in my comments and just saw this photo and your dedication to your mom. I understand your pain and loss. My mom passed away almost 14 years ago and I still miss her, but I also believe she watches over me and the rest of my family. I send you a big hug and this dancing lady is a beautiful photo!
First of all, my sympathies on the loss of your mom and this is such a lovely tribute to her. I will join you & the rest on the auto-focus. I am getting another camera for Christmas with a higher zoom, MP, etc. but will still keep it simple. Your photos are lovely & you are very creative.
sorry about your loss. i'm happy to know your perspective on this; it's a great attitude to cope with. (i lost my mother almost forty years ago and i still miss her.) you will find that she lives inside you and she still guides you. this is a beautiful tribute to your mother. the colours are so lively and the name fitting. wonderful shot, livia.
So sorry about your mother, that must have been a very difficult Christmas for you. Maybe she was smiling down on you when you took this picture of flower she used to grow.
