I find it hard to believe the year is coming to an end. Where did the time go!?
Apart from BJDs, I collect anime figures. (Secret's out. I'm a crazy manga and anime fan!) This is L. He's from the series Death Note. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L_%28Death_Note%29 ) He's socially awkward, but incredibly smart. Death Note is a series about a notebook, dropped by a god of death, that grants the user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know, by writing the name in the notebook. It's a very absorbing story that involves detective work and logical solutions as L races against the clock to find the one using the notebook to kill known criminals. It also raises questions of moral responsibility, and takes a hard look at how few people would be able to resist playing God.
Have I bored you to tears yet? 8D
In fewer than 15 hours, it will be 2012. Please allow me to wish everyone an exciting New Year filled with many happy surprises and many extraordinary photo opportunities!
Cute figure and great comp! I believe I'd really bore you with what I collect besides old relics and dust! LOL! Your collections aren't boring at all to me! I'm fascinated! Thank God we still have choices of what to collect and options to collect them! Happy New Year to you, too Livia! May it be blessed with health, happiness and prosperity for all of us!
What gorgeous clarity and great composition in this photo, Livia. Is this the new camera? Awesome work. You've been on a year and I just found you . . oh my. Well, you have to stay on now because of the new camera . . right?! We're in this together, you and I. One of my few autofocus friends. Never get bored with your collections. I find the statement about how "few people would be able to resist playing God" to be so interesting. Sadly, it's probably more true than we think. Have a wonderful and healthy New Year, Livia.
@marlboromaam: I'm interested in your old relics and dust, Maggie! 8D I like learning about other people's hobbies and looking at their collections. I think it's a great insight into their personalities, what they love, what they find intriguing, what they want more of. Happy New Year!
@unabun: Oooh, you'll enjoy Death Note! Will you be reading the books too? I highly recommend them. L is my favorite character from Death Note. He's just so cool!
@karenann: Karen, I have been unclear, so terribly sorry. I meant the year as in the year 2011, not the year on 365. I'm new on 365, I've only been around for a month or so. *smiles silly newbie smile* L's photo was taken with the old camera. Heh. I'm just not ready to give up my Lumix. I'll make a mention of the new camera when I post a photo taken with it. *makes mental note... which promptly slips through the black hole that is her brain* Seriously, I am very glad we met! You are one of my few autofocus friends here, too. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support, Karen, I really appreciate it. Happy New Year!
oooo what a sweet little face. He looks a little uncertain about this new year business - hope he can relax and enjoy the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. Happy New Year Livia xo
perfectly done; if you don't mind saying - are you photographing objects like this inside a light box (I'm thinking of making one) or are they superimposed on a background with editing tools, or what? I love the simple beauty of them.
Loving your totally professional auto-focus pics!! The guy is really cute and I do believe you have beautiful taste in things! Happy new year to you too! I'm very curious to hear if you used a lightbox too?? I ried to use te fridge as a lightbox last week, but alas it was a big ole fail....
Don't forget about me - autofocus is my friend as well, but you certainly know how to get the best out of it. Your collections are very interesting but you make them even more so with your photographs and with the stories and explanations you post about them. It gives them the depth and meaning necessary for others to appreciate them.
I love all the shots of your amazing little (although collectively I'm thinking you have a rather big collection) miniatures. Wishing you all the best for the New Year.
Thank you so much! You guys are just amazing. Thank you so much for popping by and sharing your thoughts!
@reba@tabbycat I don't use a lightbox because I don't have one! Heh. All my shots are taken next to a window, where the sunlight comes in through the glass pane. You'll notice that, in most of my photos, the shadows are on the right. That's because the window is on the left. (I know I could turn around and have the light on my right but somehow, by force of habit, I always take my photos with the window on my left. Maybe it's because I'm right-handed? I have no clue!) But, being completely reliant on natural light, I can't take photos on days when it's raining or very dark. (So a lightbox is a great idea. If I had one! 8D ) I do very light processing work, mostly by cropping and adjusting the contrast levels, using my 12-year-old Paint Shop Pro.
@meisen325 Hey there, autofocus friend! I'm glad to know you've enjoyed my long-winded, rambling descriptions too. Heh. My son sometimes sees me typing up these descriptions and he shakes his head at me in a do-you-need-to-say-so-much, mildly disapproving sort of way. He always says I'm the teenager in the house, what with my dolls and figures and comic books. 8D
Again, a big "THANK YOU!" to everyone! Have a great New Year's Eve!
It's such appealing image. It's great to hear about your interests and love peoples commentary on their photos. Most of my pictures are auto too although my aim here was to really learn my camera but havnt got too far yet!
You and my older daughter--she is a HUGE anime and manga fan! Death Note (L, especially) is one of her favorites, the manga and the anime. I'll have to show her this!
A big, festive, heartfelt "THANK YOU!" to everyone! It's such a busy time of the year and I am thankful that you have taken the time to stop by and leave a comment. Thank you so much!
@clarissajohal Oooh, I'm glad to meet another fangirl! I've read the manga, seen the anime, watched the live action movie "L: Change The World", I bought this L figurine and a few Death Note-themed accessories like keychains and straps. Ryuk is very cool, one of the most intimidating-looking shinigami I've ever seen!
Thank you again, everyone, and have a great new year ahead!
I like the simplicity of this photo. L is a very interesting subject. From your description of the story I'm tempted to find Death Note. Where does one find anime stories?
@herussell If you google for "Death Note anime", you will be able to find some links for sites where you can watch the episodes. The series is licensed in the US, so you can buy or rent the DVDs or buy the manga. Here's the official US site for Death Note: http://deathnote.viz.com/ Hope that helps!
I love your collections and the way you photograph them all. I'm sure you won't run out of things to photograph in any great hurry. Lovely composition on this. And of course a big Happy New Year to you too!
I don't usually say this out loud (but since I've got a partner it seems), I absolutely LOVE manga...in fact I've got a tab open right now on a manga reader site!! phew, that felt good ¦). I never really completed death note from front to back, but I know how it ends.
I'll end my rambling riiiight there hehe!! Like this shot and composition very much - fav!

I hope you have a very Happy New Year!
Great capture
