They look as if they came from outer space but I love seeing these orchids. They are called Lady's Slippers or Slipper Orchids. This one is probably the Paphiopedilum genus.
It looks unlike any other orchid because of its curious shape and textures. The lip, for instance, forms a cup-like pouch. The uppermost sepal also looks like an inverted heart.
It is. We call them ``Venusschoentje `` ( Venus slippers ) I did wanted to do one next time some of them but I don`t want to compare with you, now I`ve chance my mind . . I did take 80 pic to day so I`ve many others to share .The one you greatly capture is very common in our country. Every big flowershop sells it . Sometimes I feel pitty , for flowers we have/ there is a global world.
It looks like an insect with its wings spread, a flamboyant head and an ... er .... rather purple backside ;-)
Nice sharpness and soft focus background to complement the bloom.
@ellimae My orchid shots are mostly taken in the Mist House in the National Orchid Garden, at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. I go there regularly to practise with my macro lens. 8)
I don't know how I missed this . . but it's so beautiful. Perfect lighting and clarity! I love this one and the one for today . . you're perfection with each shot is awesome. You could teach the rest of us.
Gorgeous flower and pic+editing! The lighting is great. It's funny, I have one like this (well, almost because it doesn't have spots on the arms) among my orchid pics. I'll see if I can post it this week, I didn't choose yet.
I'd have to say both beauty and beast. But then I think a person can find beauty in anything....well, maybe not a Port-a-Potty, but most other things. Beautiful capture and color
A great, big, oddly-shaped, alien-inspired, multi-hued "THANK YOU!" to everyone!
This is definitely one of the strangest orchids I've ever seen. A "beautiful beast", as some of you have said, is a great way to describe it. Thank you for taking the time to stop by. I say it every day because it amazes me every day to have your support: Thank you for your time and your encouraging comments. I am grateful.
This is a stunning flower Livia. I have struggled to get online much over the last few days, but I have just looked at your Orchid shots and they are fabulous. They are making me so envious ;)
@sardonyxz As I've stated in my profile, I use a Sony NEX-C3 which is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. For macro shots, I use the Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro lens. 8)
