I was going to throw out this old palette of eyeshadow color. And then I thought, oh what the heck, and destroyed half of it, just to take a shot of what it looks like all messed up. XD
Even though I'm not a girly girl (at all), I do keep some makeup at home for emergencies. Said emergencies being that sudden invitation to attend a wedding dinner or some social event to which I can't say no without offending the inviting party. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone because I've already confessed to being an anti-social person (refer to http://365project.org/myautofocuslife/365/2012-05-23 ), I didn't even want a wedding dinner to celebrate our own wedding, hahaha. I'm most comfortable in my T-shirt and jeans and walking shoes. Just thinking about putting on makeup, a pretty dress and high heels makes me feel stressed and exhausted.
Besides, makeup is supposed to make one beautiful. That's provided one had the potential to look beautiful with makeup. (It's like push-up bras. If you don't have anything to push up, it's not going to work. XD ) I'm not one of those people. I look ghastly with or without makeup. But, yeah, at social events, a woman is expected to dress well and wear makeup, so I do because if I don't, I'd stand out of the crowd even worse.
This is the last shot for the "nothing green" challenge. I'm done. (I wish I could say the same for my project! XD )
LOL! I love your narrative! You have the gift of getting your point across extremely well! I really love who you are, Livia! Ha ha! Cool shot with nice texture and tones! I too, am more at home in jeans and a t-shirt or in this case baggy old short and a tank top.
Love it!!! Great shot. As I was putting make-up on yesterday to head to Church, I thought about how it seems less and less women (especially the younger generation) are using make-up. I applaud them. (Some of us have lots of wrinkles to cover)
Your commentary is still making me chuckle - I love the idea of you begrudgingly looking at your make-up for the wedding, then deciding, 'Naa, I'll mash it up for a good photo instead.'. Good for you!
Again with the creativity; Who but you would think to do this and then shoot it, fabulous Livia and your story is just so funny. You can't ever leave..........................is it back to green tomorrow? :0))
I, for one, am glad that your project is not over I enjoy your work immensely and I'm learning so much from it. I love your point of view and the way that you are true to yourself even when you "have to" wear a social face. - I am of the opinion that a great part of photography is a solo activity - at least until you share the result with others! Looking forward to more greens!
So have to agree with all Claire says. What would we do without you to brighten our day!? Love the jeans and tee shirt thing myself, so comfy. You know Livia you may think you look"ghastly", quite often we have a negative perception of ourselves. However I am sure you have something special, just look at all this you give us. Beauty is within as well as without. However I bet you do have a great feature, like lovely hair or eyes that you dont recognise but I bet your husband does. Jx
I think if you polled all the women of the world who have to/or have the ability to wear make-up, you'd find that many either wish they didn't have to or could care less if they do. Some do like it because it makes them feel better about themselves and others just like it period. But there are many who could and can live without it. I didn't start wearing it until my mid-20's! And to this day, if I'm not going anywhere, I don't put it on. But to hide some of the signs of aging, it's quite the confidence booster- although I don't use a lot. And I agree with Jen- there's probably something quite lovely and unique about you that you don't recognize. So don't be too hard on yourself- but don't change either! It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't have to be prissy or pampered. I like what you did with the old make-up. Great shot for texture and composition and a great way to say good-bye to the barely used make-up!
Make up doesn't make anyone beautiful Livia because it is only skin deep - less in fact! Nice shot, but i wouldn't have known what it was if you hadn't told me!
Skin deep Livia, just as David, above, has said very well. Only wear it if it makes YOU feel good, thats what its all about, I feel naked without mascara, lack confidence etc etc, but thats me. If you feel yourself without then whats the point? Anyhow, I love the shot, and that you've broken it up, and if you truly feel that you need it now and then, get professional advice from a recommended source, maybe it just wasn't 'your' colour : ))
Oh Livia, you can be so negative about yourself sometimes. I have no idea what you look like but I know enough about you to know you are a beautiful person. haha, stop being so hard on yourself (easier said than done, I know)
Are you wishing the project to be over? It wouldnt be the same when you go :)
Cool shot, I need to dig my old Body shop boxes if I haven't ditched them all. Cool narrative too. I am the exact opposite when it comes to make up but prefer none to the badly and over done ones you see so often!
An interesting capture and I was dismayed when I saw your title. Thankfully it is only the end of the green ban.
Your lengthy text is so at odds with your creative and possitive images. Even if, and I think it unlikely, that you are as you describe, you certainly have a warm and loving personality judging by the comments you so generously bestow on my snaps.
Well ... we're twins again! Won't wear make-up unless I absolutely have to. And don't care what anyone thinks. Love to wear tee shirts (either black or white), khaki pants and walking shoes or hiking boots. Heels? I don't own one single pair. Have "dressy" flats. Love that eyeshadow color tho ... I would use that sometimes. I'll bet that you're really beautiful. Your photos and your words are. :)
that looks like banana chips dressed in an abundance of demarara sugar. the one beside is a chocolate cake. is it obvious i'm having sweet withdrawal? i have not had anything sweet (dessert) since friday not that i'm trying to cut down it just happens. i have ice cream but it's in the deep freeze and i'm lazy to remove the obstacles i created for myself. hahaha! great shot, my friend. you did very well.
haha...u know what i thot that was? beef rendang. i m just like u where dressing is concerned. too busy, but wil try go wash hair in salon when i retire....
this works really well! personally, i like to hide behind lipstick and mascara... i don't think it works, but i like to maintain the pretense and hope no one bursts my bubble ;p
Great colour palette for a soft natural look! I'm sure you're not at all ghastly, you are very hard on yourself though, it must be the perfectionist in you. Your photography speaks volumes about your talent and potential (which in case I'm not being clear, is amazing!) and even though you seem to doubt yourself, you come across as an amazing individual on this site! Ok, I'll stop now, you're probably rolling your eyes at me... ;) I do hope you get the courage to show us a bit of yourself within the next 112 days of your project, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see you!
Go GREEN Livia!! I bet that is why you are acting so stressed!! LOL!! your creative abililties have been Restrained!! Get back to the Forrest where you are Happy! You sure dont scare those bugs away! But you might if you wore that makeup!!! lol...i can tell you are beautiful...you cant fool me....inside and out! I have over the past two years become very antisocial...so opposite of my real personality...but have finally come to a point in my life where i am doing exactly what i love to do and that is photography...i might now be the best but i do the best i can!! And so do you!! That is what i love about your pics and your discriptions...they are totally honest..something very rare these days.....Keep on trucking Girl...Im right behind you!! :)
Cool idea and great shot! I'm not a make-up person either. Occasionally I did out eye liner, but the only time I actually reach for the rest is for dance concerts - because I have to!
=) Great shot Livia, im glad your project is not over! your narrative reminded me of my bestie....she wore trainers (sneakers) under her wedding dress and doesn't own any heels or make-up =)
Good shot. I'm not at big fan of wearing make either - for no other reason that it makes my face feel like it's covered in cement and can't breathe and I usually end up smearing eye makeup all over my face when I do wear it so it's easier not too : )
Great textures and color. The last time I wore make up, and heels was at my daughters wedding 2 years ago. I hear that make up goes bad after a while(who knew). I think heels go bad after one use lol. Thanks for the smile this morning:)
Livia, you've got company ... I too hate social functions and don't wear any make-up except for some light lipstick when I have to attend social dos. I don't believe the 'I'm ghastly to look at' bit and in any case, true beauty is what comes from within.
From the thumbnail, I thought this was going to a tray with food in a cafeteria! Looks like your thoughts on makeup has stirred up a lot of comments from the women on this site! I'll go out once in a while and buy some makeup (just for emergencies :) ), and about even so many years, I clean out my cabinet and end up throwing it out - untouched by human hands!
Brilliant! Only you would think of crushing up eye shadow for a photo and I love it ;-) Your candid honesty in your narratives is expressed with the most delightful wit. Why do I think you really are a loveable softy? Hugs!
You are so funny. I love the way you describe your things. I have to tell you that I also enjoy most my T-shirt and comfortable jeans; use my make-up as least as possible, but do it when I have to do it... Your shot is very creative.
I agree with Erica - it looks like lovely spices :-). I am glad fashion is more diverse these days and we all can decide what we want. I don't mind wearing make-up but I would hate to wear a dress every day like my grandmothers did.
A great, big, colorful, shimmery, surprising and dramatic "THANK YOU!" to everyone! Thank you for stopping by. I've read all your opinions and encouraging words. Yes, I do look ghastly, that's a fact. 8)
Again, thank you very much. I am grateful for your constant support. These days, I feel like I'm struggling, but I will try my hardest to finish this project!
What a great shot and I seriously don't believe you're ghastly as beauty comes from within and we have all got to know you a bit now. Don't put yourself down you're a lovely person xx
Great textures and tones. Like the composition too. Again, I have to agree with you. I consider myself background scenery to others lives. Just a walk on into someone else's movie. And I've made it into an art form. I'll keep conversations polite but vague, almost boring. Won't spend too much time around one specific person or group of persons. And I'll leave fashionably in the middle of the event, quietly and discreetly, without a single thought left to whether or not I had ever been there in the first place.
I really feel like you are describing me Livia! I have one lipstick and one eye liner for emergencies and that's about it! Atleast you have eye shadows!
You come across as a beautiful person ...in both your comments & your photography ....l enjoy your photos, so selfishly glad you still have a way to go...lol on not wearing makeup - when l go out (wedding etc..) l have to go via my daughters place as l dont have any here:)
Until I started going back through your shots, I hadn't realised how many I'd missed. This post stopped me in my tracks. It's amazing to read how many shooters your story has struck a chord with, including me. We're always our own harshest critic. You're very lucky to have the kindest man you know also be the person who wants to love you till the end of your days, hopefully when you're both old and wrinkly. x

The pic is brill by the way!
