Found my first shed Cicada skin of the season. I used to love to collect these as a child. I would scare adults by wearing them as "pins" :) Love these fascinating insects.

Do you meant to say that this one is not alive..just the skin hanging on this tree. never seen one before. quite interesting.

@bruni yes,Bruni.They have an amazing life cycle.The winged mom lays eggs at the base of a tree.....17 years later they crawl up the tree and shed their skin ( exoskeleton) and emerge as winged adults.This is the skin that is left.
