A year ago I went on a group photo outing to the abandoned Eastern State Penitentiary.It was the worlds first true “Penitentiary” designed to inspire penitence in prisoners. Complete solitude was the goal for inmates. Prisoners were hooded( on the rare instances) when out of their cell.They were not allowed to speak to other prisoners or guards. Cells were equipped with feed doors and individual yards. They were kept in absolute solitary confinement for the length of their stay...no matter how long that may be. I could not help but feel an oppressive sadness about the place.This is a photo of one of the empty cells with a solitary stool. I added photos I took of a tree in a park and a root system from behind my house. Lastly I added a stock Skelly and black birds.
