Plain Ring by natsnell

Plain Ring

To make a plain ring:
- Cut wire to length (top left);
- Bend wire so the ends meet (top left);
- File/sand/cut ends so they are flush;
- Apply flux and add a grain of solder (top middle);
- Heat ring up until solder melts (bottom left);
- Quench ring and wipe clean (middle);
- Resize ring to exact size required (bottom middle);
- Sand ring rough, medium, smooth (top right);
- Polish ring (bottom right).

More tomorrow...
Cool collage - I thought you had sand casted it from looking at the other shots, love the bottom left shot with the soldering :D

@cazink The ones I made the other day were just so I could practice cutting round the circumference and filling the gap with cold enamel, so they were hacked together with the help of Owen :-)

This is really interesting, Nat. Is this a hobby, profession or one-off job?

Alison @dulciknit , it a hobby. Before our children came along to take up my spare time and space I would make stuff and @fiz and I would sell it at a local monthly craft fair. We also sold wedding rings online.

My day job is as a computer programmer /yawn.

@natsnell So I guess the programming isn't quite as much fun as making jewellery? ;-)
