I can never understand teacher training days over here. They always have them on the day the new term starts...you've just had two weeks off and now you want another day??? Why did you not this during the break? You expected the kids to do their homework over the break but you didn't do any of your? Anyway, nice portrait :)
@graemestevens they had 6 was holidays. Then had not 1 but 2 teaching days. Then kids returned for 2 days. Then did a whole 5 day week. Then this week is a 4 day week. Next week is a 5 day week. That is followed by a week with a teaching day on the Wednesday. 5 teaching days during the year. 4 of them used within the first 4 weeks of term!!!
@graemestevens all I will say is when you take a class full of children for a week - program the work according to the education department curriculum - mark it all and deal with all their problems and questions - then we will talk hahahahahaha
I love the shot. It's great. He looks so happy. I have never come across a school organising training days like the one your son's at. It's ridiculous! That's a teacher speaking! Training days came in when they took them off holidays and brought in directed time in the very odd belief that teachers work 9 - 3! There were constant complaints in the press about the length of teacher's holidays! No one ever saw me arrive at school before 7:30 to get ready for the day, or leave between 5 and 6 (taking marking home and with planning still to do! As for holidays. I was in school every holiday working , getting my classroom ready for the next theme., or in the library researching and reading so that I could choose the best book to engage and excite my class. When I became an adviser lots of teacher's wanted me to recommend books and I was amazed that they did not see reading children's literature as part of their professional responsibility! Some books to add to your list Cosmo and the Magic Sneeze by Gwyneth Rees; any of The Horrid Henry books; Ferguson Crane by Paul Stewart andChris Riddell ( a great adventure story) ; The Kiss that Missed by David Melling; try books like Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith (lots of his are good); he might enjoy The MrsPepperpot Stories; The Tales of Olga da Polga by Michael Bond; look in the library for books like The Stinky Cheeseman, or others which are great retellings of traditional tales with a twist ( Snow White and the seven Aliens) books in The Captain Underpants series are great fun; The Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy ( I think); books by Jeremy Strong; hopefully this will keep you going for a while. Let me know when you need some more suggestions. Did I give you my email address?
@ceilidh I was being cheeky to be mr s! My mum was a primary school teacher, I saw first hand how v v v hard she worked and how much time she put in out of "school hours". I'm sure there is logic to why the days have fallen this year as they have... Thanks v v much for the book suggestions. We've had the odd Jeremy strong before which was good. Worst witch- totally forgotten them, will have to raid my mums shelves next time we visit. I LOVED them so she may still have copies of them.
