Tree by nickspicsnz

Tree

I took this photo yesterday and had another play around with editing which is not something I normally do much of. I'd be very interested in feedback on this - is it OTT or is editing purely a matter of personal taste? (P.S. It probably looks a bit better on black.)
This is really bright and vivid, and brings out the texture of the tree. I think processing is a purely personal thing, and if you like it, you should post it!

Almost looks like a watercolor piece. But looks really good like that.

I agree with @888rachel about processing being a personal choice. I suspect you'll find some will love this version and other find it to OTT. It's a dramatic tree so to me deserves dramatic processing. The blue is a bit too blue for me and the vignetting a little strong, but again, that's just personal taste.

I love it! It does look like a watercolor painting...and why not? :) I am finding there are so many avenues for photography. Processing can be very enjoyable and artistic...and it began with a photograph that 'you' took :) Like Rachel said: If you like it -- post it :)

@888rachel @rickster549 @taffy @janewinfrey Thanks so much for your feedback. I've tried a toned down version with a paler blue sky and vignette as suggested by Taffy. It changes the look completely and now I'm not sure which one I prefer. I like the strong, dark outline on the tree on this version but also the softer colouring on the other. Amazing how much processing can change the look of a boring photo. I think also my processing results seems to be affected by the time of day and weather. When it's sunny and the middle of the day the screen on my PC shows the colours differently to the evening or a dull day. Now it's not so sunny the colours look much stronger on this version than they did earlier. I think my lesson for today is to do the processing and then view it at different times of day to see if I think any further editing is needed. But, boy, is processing engaging and time consuming!

I rather like it Nick, especially having seen the original. Some of the ones I took yesterday might look better with this treatment

Definitely a matter of taste, but I quite like it. I agree with @julzmaioro it does look more like Australia than NZ

I muck around with processing and often overdo it but its a matter of when to stop - like any artist !

I like it, processing can make an ordinary photo look quite different. It is fun but definitely time consuming.

@yorkshirekiwi Thanks Carole - it was definitely just a plain old tree before I played around with it.
@julzmaioro @pitasmum Than you both. Although I've not been to Oz I can see how it has that feel about it.
@maggiemae I hope I stopped in time with this one Maggie.
@tramway Thanks Bev. I'm on holiday at home at the moment otherwise I wouldn't have time to play around like this.

I think it looks great, very artistic and striking.

It's my take that editing, like art, is purely a decision of the artist; I can't imagine "rules"! This is lovely...really really nice!
